Seems to be less and less of a concern now days.

Its become much more frequent in the last few months to push the time back and back. I know its a 'guideline' but the feel to the general public is there is less and less concern about actually sticking to a deadline.

Delays are by no means a result of our lack of caring for hitting estimated deadlines. We always want the realms up as soon as possible, and unforeseen issues in the patching and test process can and will push our estimated times back.

There are scores of folks working very hard right now to get things up and running, and in stable condition. There are a multitude of checklists that must be completed before we mark the realms live.

It's frustrating but it's to be expected on patch day. It's not like Blizzard is scheming behind your back to ensure you have to keep refreshing the status update until you pass out from dehydration. This certainly isn't worth making a fuss over, but if I were to say one thing, it would be that I wish Blizzard would just be very frank on major patch days and not try to claim to the 11 am live server time. I don't think that has ever happened, nor will it, so I think they can stop chasing the dragon on that one.

To be fair, players are never forgiving when we have no time frame to provide. There would be just as many people complaining that we're giving indefinite time frames so the have no clue as to our estimated goals. We never like extending them, but the idea is to provide frequent updates as to our progress and expected launching of the realms.

Like we never heard that before.

Multi-Billion dollars company; don't give us that crap.

I'll try to make the facts in my post more subtle so as to avoid fracturing your sensibilities.

May I ask why after 4 years, patching is always an issue? I don't understand how you guys don't have this down to a science at this point.

Is it lack of QA? Really ... what is it??

There are always variables performing maintenance and patching on the scale we do. We always provide an estimate and always try to hit it, but it's only an estimate.

Exactly, you would think blizzard would learn after years and years of so-called "unexpected errors and problems arising, to be better prepared beforehand. Why should there be bugs and unexpected problems occuring when installing the new patches on live paying network servers? Say it with me now blizzard "that is what the TEST servers are for" to TEST patches before release and work out bugs before they go live.

There's no comparison between hosting a patch on a couple of test realms, and applying that to hundreds of realms located around the country.

The patching process has actually gotten much more smooth over the years, and, contrary to what everyone seems to remember, several patches have been released without excessive extended down time. This happens to be one of the largest patches we've ever released with some of the most wide spread changes to many aspects of the game we've made.

It isnt made any easier by the lack of information ...yes you are giving frequent updates...however the frequent updates dont tell us anything apart from that we'll be given an update in an hour...which when the update is given it is exactly the same as the last update ". We currently do not have a definite estimate on when they will be playable, but we will provide another update at approximately X:00PM PDT"

That's the information we're provided from those working to bring the realms online. If there's a lack of specificity, it's because we don't have greater specifics to provide until more checks are made.
