What the hell is wrong with Garrosh?

Just watching the new Ulduar trailer it's pretty clear that he's off-the-wall aggressive. He was literally the only one there who looked like he was trying to fight everyone, even his own people. Here is a transcript:

Garrosh: I want to see this dwarf.
Thrall: Garrosh...
Garrosh: To see the fear in his eyes. Then we'll know if he's telling the truth.
- They teleport up to the top room.
King Varian: What are they doing here?
Garrosh: I THOUGHT I SMELLED THE STENCH OF ALLIANCE PIGS.
(Smooth Garrosh, try to piss off Varian right off the bat for absolutely no reason. I'm sure he'll respond well.)
Thrall: Control yourself.
(Wow Thrall, great line. That outta get Garrosh him to stop being an ass -_ -).
King Varian: You want by blood? Come then dog!
(How did Garrosh think Varian would respond? He isn't a coward, he isn't going to say "oh, that's okay, you're just an angry orc")
- Garrosh charges Varian with two axes.
King Varian: He's mine!
- Varian is about to pwn Garrosh before Rhonin breaks it up.
Garrosh: A true warchief would never partner with cowards.
(So, he insults Thrall right there by implying that he isn't a true warchief...and Thrall does nothing?)
King Varian: At the Wrath Gate the Horde's partnership killed more of our men than the Scourge. I'm done with your Horde. May this death god take you all.
(I'm surprised he didn't mention the broken front too.)
Thrall: You disappoint me Garrosh.

Garrosh was just trying to pick a fight with Varian; most any other Alliance leader would have backed down, at least Varian doesn't put up with his BS. Is it just that Thrall can't control Garrosh? Why does he even have him as one of his generals? Honestly I have never seen Thrall portrayed so weakly.

Garrosh is a very driven orc. He has a lot on his plate, he worries about his fitness to be a leader, and also worries about his heritage (though Thrall has shown him more about his father to help assuage those worries.)

There have been some in game events that have shown his nature a bit better and anyone that has been to Warsong Hold has gotten to know him a little as well.

Varian isn't exactly partial to the Horde either and orcs in particular.

Yes. I was pointing out that you were wrong in your assertion that all orcs he's met have been brutal and callous monsters, however. :-p

He does hate the Horde, but it's almost entirley for the reasons I mentioned.

That was Saurfang the Younger.

I think it's easy to oversimplify the relationships and allegiances here, but there are definite complexities at work as well in regard to who either side is willing to forgo their prejudices for etc.

I don't think Varian's mentality is "pre-judging." Recall that before the Wrath Gate events he was willing to work with the Horde. They were in Northrend fighting a common foe. In fact, before his capture he was going to make peace with them!

And this is after he had every right to hate the Horde. They killed his father. They burned Stormwind. They were indirectly responsible for the Defias's rise (burning SW) and the subsequent murder of his wife (Though the House of Nobles was at fault too).

It wasn't until after the Wrath Gate, and entering the ruins of the once great Alliance city of Lordaeron, that he decided that the Horde were monsters.

He had to be persuaded a bit to give it a chance though. He wasn't completely sold on the idea and yes, the Wrath Gate sort of sealed away the idea of peace for him it seems.

You make a good point.

But Varian did try peace for a very long time. You can only push a man so far.

Well, he has quite a rough history behind him too, so it's understandable that he's harboring some anger he wouldn't mind unleashing on someone.

People say that Varian has a right to act the way he does. No one mentions that Thrall has every right to act like Varian and yet he doesn't.

Very true, but what breaks one person down sometimes strengthens another.
