So I just flew from Stormwind to Flamestar Post.

On the way to Flamestar Post. I actually flew directly over Flamestar Post, Clear into Searing Gorge, all the way to Thorium Point, then down to Iron Summit, completely circled Iron Summit, then Completely circled Blackrock Mountain before finally Landing at Flamestar Post. The trip took at least 3 times as long as it should have.

Blizzard, It's time you made ALL Flight Paths direct routes from point A to point B. No more of this scenic crap, OK?

We'll be making an improvement to the way flight paths are connected and would be interested to see if the same flight will be handled differently on the PTR. From the 6.1 PTR Patch Notes.

World Environment and Events

    Flight Path Improvements

  • Improved the logic used for connecting flight paths. Players are now able to fly through flight points that they have not discovered yet if it'll result in a more direct flight path to a destination point.
  • A button has been added for characters in the middle of a flight to get off at the next known flight point.

But will this "improved logic" solve some scenic routes that still exist between direct flight paths? Such as flying just a little bit beyond where you're supposed to land and then circling around for the scenic view first before actually landing?

Circling down to land from a high altitude doesn't sound like an unusual behavior. There's been additional tuning made to some flight points that were perceived to be overly scenic on Draenor. Keep in mind that flight paths won't do things like flying directly through a mountain if there's a mountain pass nearby.

Does this mean I can dismount headed to FPs I don't have, and then land and get them?

It'll allow you to get off at the next known connecting flight point.
