Why has blizzard abandoned Alterac Valley?

Last time I checked the battles in Alterac Valley come out very close to 50-50 win ratios. This can differ a bit by battlegroup but I haven't heard of any horrendous numbers as players often bring up.

The repeatable quests “Concerted Efforts” (Alliance) and “For Great Honor” (Horde) will require the Alterac Valley token again in 3.1.

There was more PvP activity pre-WotLK because of the honor-purchasable Arena gear, and the overall greater popularity of Arena itself.

Blizzard made entry-level raiding more accessible in this expansion, so more of the playerbase has shifted to farming Naxx for easy epics instead of farming battlegrounds. People who PvP for fun are still PvPing. People who only PvPed because it was an easy way to farm good gear have moved on to Naxx.

If anyone has abandoned AV, it is we, the players.

I would also add that this is something we have to be careful of as we add new Battlegrounds. There is likely always going to be a "best honor farming" battleground that players will focus on, but the more BGs we add, the more we spread out players.

Right now it's 4 marks for like 980(?) honor.
Then it will be 5 marks for ...... 1225?

On the PTR it shows 1241 honor at the moment.
