Proxy log on with a Battle.net account

Just a hint, for folks behind proxy servers and unable to log into battle.net accounts.

I 've started to use Proxifier to get past a proxy server (that my IT department has recently imposed on me) to log into WoW. This works fine with accounts that I haven't merged into Battle.net, but does not work for my Battle.net accounts. I have found that I can make it work by modifying my /etc/hosts file to include the line:

12.129.206.130 us.logon.battle.net

I can now log on and authenticate with my battle.net account. This will break if Blizzard ever changes the IP of the battle.net logon server, but you'd just have to update the IP in the host file.

This is for Leopard, btw, there is an additional step for Tiger. Look for instructions on modifying your host file and updating the NetInfo database on the web.

Modifying systems files can be tricky; if you are not confident that you understand this change, have a geeky friend do it for you.

Hello Lambent,

Just wanted to bump your post and say thank you for posting the info. I'm sure others will find it very useful.

Also for anyone that wants to know, battle.net accounts use port 1119 for logging in and authentication.
