WIM(Addon) causing virus-like symptoms

Just figured the CSRs might want to look into WIM's April Fools "joke":

Apparently folks with the addon installed will be greeted with randomly playing dial-up tones. While this isn't actually dangerous to any users, I feel it's not right for the addon developer to tack something like this in there without any prior warning or alluding to it occuring. Myself personally I had WIM on, but the window popups turned off so I spent nearly 30 minutes trying to figure out why my computer was doing this. I finally pegged it down to WoW, but reasoned it must be an addon because Blizz would know better. However, I would imagine some people might be clueless, and think that Blizz is actually behind this "joke".

I use "joke" because apparently someone went as far as spending money to try and fix said "joke". Sad day when you can't trust addon developers.

Never said it was you guys. Was just giving you a heads up that since the problem is hard to duplicate over and over, and is quite random but also tied to having WoW open, that the average user may peg Blizzard as the cause of their woes. Honestly how many people are going to figure out one particular addon is causing them issues? The technically inclined yes, perhaps. The common everyday person? No way.

Oh, I understand, Tarkonn.

:)

And we do appreciate the heads up.

Its not possible for WIM to be a virus.

I just thought I would make that clear, if you are hearing sounds, its a feature of WIM and your welcome to request the author add an option to disable the sounds you are hearing if you want.

I don't think they are saying it's infected, I think what it's doing is making folks wonder if they have some kind of malware on their system.

An explanation for this phenomenon has been posted here:
