Mouse Buttons 4-5 Not Working - XFIRE

I recently set up a new PC with Windows Vista Home Basic, and am using a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. I've installed the latest Intellipoint and Intellitype software, but in WoW the Mouse Buttons 4 and 5 (Autorun should be on 4) aren't recognized.

I've read that WoW inherently recognizes these 5 buttons, so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game to no avail. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse and keyboard software, as well as running it without the software and attempting to set custom keybinds through the IntelliPoint software specifically for WoW. It's as if the game doesn't get the message that the buttons are being clicked. The receiver plugs into the PC via one USB cord, if that makes any difference. I've even tried going into the BIOS and turning Plug-and-Play OS on and off.

I know the mouse functions, because I've used it for over a year on my old Windows XP Pro box. So far, researching on the internet hasn't really shown this to be a common problem, and I'm at a loss as to how to go about solving this. Any suggestions?

These issues sound like damaged keybindings. It may be best to reset the keybinding options in the game and start over. Currently my MX518 still works and the side/middle buttons are set to Generic.

Did any new Logitech Setpoint software get released recently? I'm still using SetPoint 4.0.0.121
(work network restrictions prevent SetPoint from connecting/updating itself as well)

I just logged onto my druid and I can still use my mouse. I know the game will take any Microsoft and Logitech mice with generic drivers (uninstall Intellipoint and SetPoint to restore the default drivers) and the game will work with those. You can try that route.

Yea i have thought of going that route also(uninstalling drivers), but i would lose keystroke assignments on my other mouse buttons. Assuming you are also using a mx518, you know the game does not recognize the sensitivity increase/decrease buttons, and the page lock i think the third one is by default.

My hotfix at the moment is to set keystroke assignments for mouse buttons 4 and 5 while im in game, then i have to restore to generic assignments when im outside of game. Kind of a pain, but the least painful of all the choices i see currently until i can find what is causing the problem. (at the moment the only thing i can see is that its some strange problem with the game and drivers interacting, unsure how it happened all of the sudden though)

I pretty much bind my pet to my mouse. For the MX 518 at work, Sensitivity decrease/increase maps to the pet bar where one is their first ability and the other is their second ability. Application Switch is F5 for browser refresh and pet follow, depending if I'm playing the game or on the forums.

I can check my MX Revolution at home to see if anything changed but nothing was changed here.

Try this: exit the game.
Go to the World of Warcraft\WTF\Accounts\your name\

You'll see a file called bindings-cache.wtf. Move that file to your desktop. That's your main keybind file. Now run the game again and it'll revert itself to default ones. Your custom one is on your desktop. See if you can bind your Mouse 4/5s into something. Does anything happen? What if you use a generic driver for now? You can always install Intellipoint or SetPoint later.

To restore your keybindings, exit the game and move the bindings-cache.wtf file back. Next time you run the game, it'll take those bindings

Ok I think I bugged too many people. I had a few coworkers run World of Warcraft and try their button 4 for autorun. It still works for them too. Are you all using any addons? It's possible that one of them got updated and killed that functionality.

It's time for me to head home but I bookmarked this thread. I'll try on my MX Revolution tonight.

So is XFIRE the only common thing here? I don't have XFIRE and my MX Revolution at home works. Ok I'm going to Kara now...

Xfire is a game launching and chatting software with some other features. You can find more information here - http://www.xfire.com/

Try uninstalling your mouse software and see if the issue persists.

I realize that this thread is a bit old, but I am having this problem as well. I had already made a post about this, but I figured I would copy my issue here as well.

I just came back from a hiatua and decided to try WOW again. I am working off a completly new install and have tried things with no addons and with addons. I have also tried deleting the Interface, WTF and Cache folders. I am working off Windows XP SP2, do not have X-Fire installed and I am the administrator of the machine.

I have a logitech G5 mouse and I really love to use all the buttons on it. I have the SetPoint application change all of the buttons to keystrokes (Button 4 - '1', Button 5 - '2', etc.) which corresponds to action keys. This allows me to use 6 actions without touching they keyboard. I then have shift, ctrl, and alt to different bars which allows me to never have to hit more than those keys and a mouse button. The problem is that mouse button 3 and mouse button 4 will not function in the game. I have unbound them from the keybinding menu, but they still will not recognize any keystroke in the game. I have had this mouse for a while and I remember it working in the past.

Anyone have ideas other than X-Fire?

Please don't assign them to keystrokes. Assign them to "Generic"

Same issue, buttons 4 and 5 as well as 3 push not working....wheel still scrolls though. Running Vista Basic, DeathAdder mouse and I do not have or run X-fire. Took all mods off and still same? Any suggestions?
I'm not familiar with that brand. See if your mouse software will let you change the functions of the buttons to OS or Generic. If not, please contact your mouse manufacturer.

Edit: A full removal of logitech software and fresh install allowed me to return to old funcationality....

This is absolutely ridiculous. I've used a logitech MX518 with SetPoint with all buttons set to key assignments for years with no kinks ever. Today, in the middle of play, suddenly the key assignments refuse to execute through the buttons. Setpoint is running, the bindings are intact... yet the game suddenly will not recognize. When I try to rebind the buttons in WoW keybindings, it will respond to Mouse 4 and 5; as though SetPoint is not running at all.

It makes no sense to me how this could suddenly happen in the middle of play, no software of driver updates of any sort in days, no addon changes, no change to background applications running.

I tried troubleshooting with my older version of setpoint for 30min or so, and updated to the newest. Same behavior...

Help. And please don't suggest setting buttons to generic. For one I don't want a work around I want the solution. And secondly, 3 of the buttons can not be mapped to this or any other function and work inside WoW with or without software running.

Iroe,

This thread was more for a conflict with XFire than anything else. On either my MX518 or MX Revolution, my keybindings still work. Top app switch button is still acting as F5 and my side buttons work. On the MX Revolution, the thumb wheel (set for Ctrl+keyboard button) still works and allows me to use abilities on my action bar. Mostly decurse and random functions sit there so I do spam it to death. Is there a time period where the game starts ignoring it? I think my stretch so far is about 4 or 5 continuous hours into a gaming session.

Q u o t e:
well i will admit what i did was a little retarded on my part, i was in my key bindings changing some things and hit escape, nothing happened so i hit the X to close the window. and then i realized that i had rebound my escape key to who knows what. now i cant pull up the main menu to fix my mistake, any suggestions?

Click on the little computer icon by your bags. That should open up the menu. Go to the Keybindings section and set them to default. Hit OK and your Esc key should be back to normal.

Please do not bump very old threads. For the SteelSeries mouse, it looks like you have to use the mouse software to configure those side buttons and it doesn't have a generic option. Contact SteelSeries if you need additional help configuring the mouse. http://www.steelseries.com/us

Thread necromancy is bad. You blasted my memory back two years :(

You basically need Intellpoint installed, set the side buttons to Back (default) and Forward (browser) (default) and to not run World of Warcraft as an administrator explicitly.
