It's that "falling in love for the first time" factor. It's hard to overcome the sense of feeling jaded after a time. Every gamer goes through it no matter the type of game they are playing. They are looking for the reemergence of that first thrill. When Wrath of the Lich King started, people were enthusiastic and generally very positive. As time has gone by, I think people have settled in and gotten comfortable. They're wearing their cozy pajamas with the holes in them and may feeling stuck in a rut. There are a lot of elements in the game that perhaps they just haven't tried out or they may just need to take a breather and get back some of their initial love by rediscovering the game.
That statement you made in the Vanilla WoW post really says it all its the one thing almost everyone who has been here from the begining more or less really feels
I have to say I never really thought of it that way but it does put this game into perspective as to why old times always seem like teh best times
