Removing authenticators from accounts.

Last night I totaled my car. Broke a telephone pole in half, and nearly severed the front of my car. QQ, right?

Anyway, my main account has an authenticator attached to it, and my authenticator is attached to my keys. Since my keys are unable to be found, either in the wreck or the area surrounding it, I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to again access to my account.

If not, how would one go about canceling an account in my situation? I can't log in to do it, and I don't want to continue paying for the account if I can't access it. Thanks very much in advance.

The following response was written by one of our new teammates. Because they are still in training and do not yet possess a forum account of their own, they shall be posting via proxy through me.

Why the need to bump a thread from early January regarding this issue was felt, I’ll never know. However, the information given is accurate. From the Account Compromise Info Center sticky:

    In some circumstances, malicious parties may add an Authenticator to an account to prevent access to anyone who does not posses the Authenticator.
