How to close down your account permanently

Any way to close an account utterly? I emailed blizz but got a standard can't help you with that email. Short of logging in for a few hours in stormwind spamming racial slurs, is there any way to close/lock an account so it's simply dead permanently, never to be opened by anyone ever again, including addicted me who should know better?

Self control.

this man has never tried to quit smoking

Edit: by that, i mean to say that sometimes self control isn't always enough - a little bit of help goes a long way.

That's a lie. I've tried quitting more than once. :p

Putting all random useless information that you get paid to spew forth aside, there should be a feature that allows the person with the original Credit Card, Address and Secret Question to be allowed to permanently shut down and delete the account in question. Why has this feature been left out?

Because the first thing players would want is an option to overturn this at a later date.

No more like you are counting on that player to return at a later date. if someone were to actually delete
an account more than likely you have lost their business, and we all know Blizz can't have that. Another blue post fail GRATS!

I didn't say that allowing players to reactivate a canceled account doesn't make good business sense, but there's a reason players can ask a Game Master to restore deleted characters.

I'm not sure if you're arguing we should allow players to permanently delete accounts as a convenience to those who can't force themselves not to pay us. That's just weird.

"Hi! Someone has broken into mah account and deleted it! Can I has it back?"

"No, sorry. As a convenience to those who can't just decide to quit paying for the game -- and so we can limit the potential for 'blue post fail' -- we've made it so you can never recover your account."

This has NOTHING to do with self control. It's the fact the option is not offered. There could be many reasons that one would want to delete an account.

The point is there will always be exceptions to the rule making it necessary for a percentage of players to recover permanently deleted accounts. It makes little business sense to implement an option for players to permanently delete an account when it would only mean that intervention from our support departments would be required to reinstate the account. You're allowed to quit paying for your account and cancel it at any time. You're also allowed to renew your subscription and continue playing at any time. We do it this way because it makes sense, both for the player and for our company.

"But I promise not to be addicted! My eye doesn't twitch! This is a bad policy and I R blame Blizz! There should be some sort of option to recover your account in case you want to get it back, and possibly have an option to un-delete characters."

"Know you not the meaning of permanence?!"

I have nothing valid to add to this argument but I will point out.... When you go to post after clearing your browser it asks you to validate your birthday, nothing wrong with that except.... it goes month, day, year instead of day, month, year... Explain!

That's how the date is written in Uhmareyku.

Blues can joke, but what happens when my dead grandmother uses my WoW account as a portal to our world and murders my friends and family, and the only way I can stop her is to permanently delete my WoW account?

I guess then Blizz will just have to deal with the blood on their hands.

You have a point. That's an outcome we failed to consider...

OH, so this IS a real rule. That explains why my other account was hacked/banned and never given back and my emails were never addressed by anything but an automatic response system. Thanks for clearing things up.

No.

Trust me I called support, all they said was "I'm sorry we can't help you with that issue." Which is funny, b/c the people they referred me too could only be emailed, in which a resounding " this issue is now closed, please do not email us again about this issue" was the response b/c the hacker posted crap on the forums to compromise accounts. GG.

There is no circumstance under which support would say the matter is closed because your account was used to post keyloggers on the forums. Forum moderation and Account Administration are completely separate departments.

I can't personally investigate your account, so your point isn't exactly useful for this discussion.

Q u o t e:
....well, then apparantly you lack self control as well, so, gg.

maybe you should practice what you preach brah.

Granted you may have just started looking at the forums. Given the time between my original response and yours though, it feels like you waited all day for the perfect moment to take issue with something written in blue. You're really good at it too! ;)
