A kind of weird question!

How many of you out there have successfully gotten your boyfriend/girlfriend to play WoW with you?

My girlfriend had been getting fed up with me for playing too much, so I had to try to get her into it.

She leveled a lock to 5, stopped playing, and continues to nag me about how much I play!

This could also be a thread for some funny stories about significant others and WoW ;]

Did you help her out at all? If so did you do it while sitting next to her, or on your computer, using your character? I know some non-gamers don't make it far without help because the game ends up feeling too complicated.

If a game feels too complicated to you, it's likely you're not having fun.

WoW's pretty easy to get in to as far as MMO's go..

I had a much easier time figuring out the controls in WoW than I did in, say, UO or EVE. I think it's part of the reason the game's so popular, because most people can pick it up and figure out how to play well enough to get by.

We're not comparing one MMO to another. If the last game you've played was PacMan for Atari 2600, World of Warcraft might seem a bit overwhelming to you without some help. Most people who don't play games, assume a game that "looks" complicated is overwhelming. Believing something will be too difficult for your mind to grasp will hinder the learning process.

I can't count how many times I've heard someone who hadn't played games look at a game I was playing and say, "I don't know how you do that". I remember my grandma telling that to me about Super Mario Brothers...

So you're saying it's all mind over matter? You have to admit that World of Warcraft, being an MMORPG is more complex than most console games.

No, I'm stating that if you attempt to learn something but resist because you aren't confident that you have the capacity to understand it, you will be impacted. I'm not sure where your second sentence is coming from. I think you need to read my post again.

/pat

You know people don't actually read your posts just because you have blue text, right? ;) I keep trying to tell Zarhym this, but he doesn't listen to me.

Darn, I only took this job so finally someone would listen to me.

Well, I do.

But I think I have a bias.

Well, good to know I have a listener. ;D

I also kind of feel silly saying certain words aloud. mob, pat, agro , and the million acronyms!

Hehe, you get used to it. Working here all these years has made these daily-use acronyms. As often as you type them I speak and hear them.

In public!?

Indeed. Mind you, I'm careful. I rarely begin speaking such things to the family that works at the 7-11when they ring out my sale, for instance.

They already silently judge me. I can tell.

What exactly is the tattoo on your arm, it looks cool.

Wondered that when I saw your pics from the first Blizzcon

It's pieced together images of art both originally created and inspired by H. R. Giger.

Actually its against blizzard policy to allow people who's names arent on the account to play on it. doing so may result in suspension or termination of the account. is there anything else i can assist you with today Eyonix?

No where was account sharing mentioned in my post, or the original post. Besides my text, I wonder what else your eyes naturally distort. How does it feel to live a life that constantly misleads you?

THAT is account sharing sir

They could have two accounts (or one trial) and each of them are using their own characters. I sit on my computer using my character to help others on many occasions, which is what I asked him, and I'm not account sharing.

Why don't you get back to work, I hear your boss coming.

Your first sentence was well-balanced-blue stuff.

After that, another step down the slippery slope to Trollville.

Please make certain, I didn't slip.

I think you are slipping, but I don't think I can help you.

This is the way I post, it has been for many years. I'm not looking to offend you, but when I make a comment, I do so for a reason. One that some may agree with or understand, while others won't, but that would happen no matter my style.

Fair enough. I was actually amused by the post you made that drew my attention and comment. I didn't make my post as an indictment; rather, you felt like one of us, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, I didn't read your comment as any type of an attack, so no worries there.

Q u o t e:

Can I catch you if you do? ;D

You reminded me of the time I slipped and fell at a mall, completely -- right foot went up, and I fell on my back. Picture me as one of the burglars in the movie Home Alone, yeah -- I fell cartoon style. That's not even close to the sad part though.

Now that everyone was looking at me, as I returned to my feet, I took one step and immediately fell again in the same fashion. I was scared to get up, afraid it would happen again. I considered just slithering out, using my arms to pull my body away.

Are you telling me I remind you of horribly embarrassing situations?

...what exactly does that say about me? O.o I should probably know the answer to this question, given I'm the "dork with the signs."

I guess "slip" was a trigger word.

Eyonix,

In regards to difficulty, the games not difficult, the UI is horrible, like BAD.

I tried getting my brother to play, he is currently lvl 26.

I had to log onto his toon to help him with something and I noticed a bunch of mistakes on his part.

1.) HIs Warrior had all INT GEAR ON. Reason? There is NOTHING in the game that explains to a beginner what gear does or what stats do. (except for the horrible mouseovers that are somewhat vague and borderline inaccurate.. spirit increases your health regen? ORLY?

2) He has spent ZERO talent points. Reason? How the heck is he supposed to know? The craptastic message you get when you ding a level that gets pushed off your screen by Barrenss chat 2 seconds after you ding?

3) He has NONE of his talents or attacks on his toolbar. Reason? How's he supposed to KNOW? The trainer isn't really explained well and the spell book is ambiguous, meaning, there are some standard issue things in there, like racials and "attack", then tradeskills, then talents. Where does it tell him to drag an ability out of his spell book?

The games not hard, just poorly implemented for noobs.

The instruction manual explains those things, as do the tool tips -- if you don't turn them off. There are going to be things new players miss/forget with or without help, and we do our best to make things as intuitive and user-friendly as possible.
