What make even more stupid to me is that I even put the whole explanation of the issue in laymen terms and he still went nuts.
The way I look at it is this: they're frustrated.
For whatever reason, they're frustrated. And as we all know, frustration breeds irritation and a defensive nature. You have to expect that they're likely to argue with you, even if you happen to be right; even if it's simply because they may not have thought of that answer and because of that, they're going to take their frustration out on you.
It's unfortunate, but in the end, all they want is help. They may not act like it, but why else would they come here asking questions? It is always best to be understanding of what may have happened as a result of an issue on the other side of things; we can't expect to know what other issues may have led up to the one their bring to our attention here.
Of course, there are always going to be those who push the limits, but one of us will take care of that. You can't take things personally when dealing with those that are simply so frustrated with an issue that they've become slightly irrational. Take it in stride and know that you did your best to help them. =)
