Advantages of a guild?

Why are most people that play wow in a guild? I have been in two guilds and so far and i find it more of a pain than fun. There always seems to be drama of some sort...he said/she said. Guild chat usually consists of the words "fail" "your mom" "you gear sucks" Sure it easier getting raids for Naxx together but even when im not in a guild i usually can find pugs. Is there any advantages of being in a guild that someone can tell me?

When you get to know people in the guild you know who you can depend on which can make dungeons/raids go very smoothly.
