Why did blizz even bother with a manual

The stuff is so out of date it's not even funny, and the fact that they knew it would be out of date as soon as it was printed, and who even reads the manual anyways?

I took a look at it and loled at "you will lose exp if you rez at the spirit healer", and how useless the stat descriptions are now.

I think, if anything, it's kind of cool to see a snap shot of World of Warcraft's beginnings.

I'm not sure if I've consulted a game manual in years though. They almost seem like a bit of a formality at this point.

People who haven't been playing video games for the past 10 years don't generally sit down and master the game.

I believe that these manuals are targeted at people who have maybe never played a game of this sort before.

Let's face it the first time I opened the UO manual I was in shock for a few minutes.

The big one they made later, not the slip of paper that came in the plastic bag with the jewelcase in it.

Yea, I can definitely see that. I guess I was working under the assumption that most people these days would just find game play information online, but that's probably naive of me to assume.

ugh, do blues really have to defend everything.

The manual could use updating, I remember starting wow a couple months after release and being extremely confused as to why my druid couldnt use polearms.

I kept asking where I could go to train polearms, and everyone told me I couldnt. but the manual clearly says polearms.

just one example. but the bottom line is that manual printing is a one time thing really...

Did I really come off as defensive in this thread? I feel you're trying harder to take issue with something I've said, than I am to defend Blizzard's every move.

Of course, now I've just attempted to defend myself, providing you with a free shot at the irony. :)

eh maybe not so much defensive as "an answer to everything"

I can accept that, though it'd be really weird if we just went around responding to threads: "I have absolutely no clue, but good thread."

a new player buying wow wont be as impressed with the nostalgia of the old manual as seasoned players can just enjoy a laugh at

You make a good point.

If I were to ask a blue right now about where I could read the manual online, he'd be stumped. He wouldn't have an answer for me. He'd just give me a cookie-cutter response of "The worldofwarcraft.com website is filled with information all about your character, and the game!", and another cookie-cutter response of "The forums are a good place to search for information!"

He'll tell you that crap, but he won't tell you that you'll have a heck of a time finding the specific information you're looking for, if you find anything at all.

He won't give you a link that takes you to a page called "The Manual"

You make a very good point as well.
