This suggestion was just posted in the rogue forums, and I love it.

Change enveloping shadows so that when you vanish, vanish does not break for 1/2/3 seconds after use.

This would make the talent worthwhile and fix vanish...for the sub tree at least.

edit: I think GC misinterpreted my post. This change isn't just another fix vanish qq, but a viable talent change allowing sub rogues easier escape. Additionally, it would give sub some of the love it deserves.

"Working as intended" gets used too broadly.

With Vanish, the issue is more like: we think there are probably some bugs with it still somewhere, but whenever we sit down and try to replicate those bugs so we can get to the bottom of the problem, the dumb spell works perfectly.

It doesn't help that Vanish breaking is up there with Onyxia deep breathing more in the sacred Annals of Wait is This a Joke or Not I Can't Tell Anymore?
