I joined a group on Norushen, fought all the way to spoils, but alas.. After about an hour, I had to retire.

So later I sign back on, start up my own group to finish where I left off!! Gotta get that SMASH N GRAB HEIRLOOM am i right?

NOPE.. Back at the beginning, have to CLEAR the whole thing again...

Looking into this. In the meantime, as Kredoria mentioned, making sure someone who already has the lockout is the first to zone in seems to provide the behavior you're looking for.
