The issue here is not holy priests but priests in general being mandatory for that fight. You knock out typically at least one healer in the fight that requires a decent amount of healing in order to mind control. Also you are asking healers to do something normally far outside of their normal job descriptions. Meanwhile tanks typically stand around looking pretty as there isn't a lot for them to do in that fight (rounding up the extra adds can be done by one tank typically).
I think this is an outdated holdover at this point and should not have a mandatory requirement. GC can you comment on why Blizz decided to keep the priest MC as part of the fight please?
