Pet's for every class?

Why? Why does a Shaman or a Mage need a pet? And I'd be willing to bet these are more powerful than a hunter pet, a class that is pretty much defined by pets. You are taking away uniqueness in the name of balance. There are other ways to balance things I would think.

You also say you want hybrid classes to play a more important role in the expansion. Hunters are a hybrid class so when I heard this I got excited that there may be several encounters (or perhaps all encounters) where pets are actually useful and not just a level 40 DOT who dies in 30 seconds. Now what's to stop the other pets from filling these roles?

IMO more focus should be put on rethinking the hunter pet and what its supposed to do rather than just throwing pets out to any class who wants them...what next, warrior pets? After seeing Shaman and Mage pets I wouldn't even be shocked. And now I am hearing rumors of druids getting a pet?? What??

I would really like to hear the reasoning behind all this. Yes, I know they are talent based pets but I still think they are wholly unnecessary.

Then again maybe I am just upset I don't know the new hunter skills yet...maybe blizz has something up their sleeve to counter this, but at this point I am just expecting the return of Lacerate rank 1....in all trees.

While I know that Hunters, Druids and Priests are very concerned about what lays in store for them with their spells and talents, I believe people are getting a bit too "chicken little" about what may yet come. At this point the only reason those spells and talents have not been released is because the team would like to make sure they are as solid as possible when released and they are still working on them. While we'd like to think that getting the other spells and talents into the hands of the players was something good that we wanted to do, you can see that there has been a certain amount of negative to go with it. Much of that stems from the fact that despite assertions that these spells and talents are still in testing, people are taking a general sort of "doomsday" approach to them. This is partly caused by the fact that the first release was slightly older than what was most current so it gave an impression of finality. We did an update on those to show that there is a definite progression going on and that these are still just a preview and not final as of yet.

I know people are asking, "But Nethaera, what does this have to do with Hunters?" It has plenty to do with them. Because the team is still working on them they did not want to put out something that was half-finished and have people questioning where they were going with things. They want some polish put on it all so that we can get a more realistic feedback based on more accurate information.

So now you're asking, "But Nethaera, what does this have to do with the pet situation?" I can tell you little right now except that things are being worked on for Hunters and that includes taking a look at how pets work right now. (Don't read too deeply into that.) That simply means that the team is working to enhance how things are now and build on it. Will there be more pet opportunities in Outland? Well it's a good bet that there will be. How many? What will they be? That's undetermined as of yet. With the variety of pets that a Hunter can take, it does make them "THE" Pet class. No other class can walk into a zone and choose the type of pet they want to have.

The OP had concerns about Hunters and their "Pet class" title. It gave me the opportunity to explain why Hunters, Priests and Druids do not have their spells and talents out yet and give a little bit of insight into the fact that Hunters are not being forgotten as the Pet class but that things are being worked on.

So, yes, I strayed a bit beyond what he said but it was a good place to put in some extra information.

We are definitely aware of the requests that have been coming in. I just don't have any information that I can share with you at this point in time about what is being planned nor do I want to hype something up and make people think there are big things on the horizon when I don't know what is exactly in process and "big things on the horizon" can mean a lot of things to people. (Though I do have a little bit of a snapshot that I can't share as of yet.)

(Double chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, lemon cookies, oatmeal cookies and some no-sugar sugar cookies for those watching their diets. ;p)

Spells and talents are still being worked on. What you see listed currenty is merely a preview. These are not final because they are still being tested.

We want to release the next class spells and talents when they are as polished as possible. That said, they will still be in testing as well and will not be final until we hit release. Even then, as you all know, things are subject to change based on what we feel benefit the progression of the game best.

We do not have an ETA on when these will be finished currently. While we realize people are frustrated they can't take part in discussions about their spells and talents like the rest of the classes, we feel that releasing anything right now would be completely premature and would not give the best overall picture of the direction these classes are being taken in.

I hope that clarifies things a little bit.

So...let me double check here. Most (if not all) classes are going to get "temporary pets," as it were, much like Engineering Pets. Cool, cool. But...Rogues get a...raccoon? Why a raccoon? I mean, there's gotta be other good Rogue-ish critters out there; a fox is sly and sneaky, squirrels are cute and will take anything not nailed down, and ferrets...well, I've got a pair of them (freaking brats), and let me tell you, a rabid raccoon has NOTHING on them. I know, the whole "Raccoons are bandits" thing, but ferrets make raccoons look like mere panhandlers. That, and ferrets are soooo adorable. ...When they're not digging holes in everything and trying to steal your shinies... C'mon, people, see if we can get a petition started! :)

The problem with ferrets is they'd end up doing the "Weasel War Dance" all the time and have the attention span of a small child. ;) Plus they'd give themselves away with all the exciteable squeaking and pungent smell.
