edit: it is also not showing when i pick up loot and it doesn't show when i leave or join channels.. the only channel i seem to be able to join is trade.

I can see trade, but that is generally 5 minutes after i log on... could my settings be messed up or should I just wait for it to stop doing this? One thing you can check is what is selected.
Click on the chat tab at the top of your chat window, that should bring up a list of what you want included.
Click the channels you'd like to see displayed, toggle them if they already look checked (off and back on), see if that helps.
