Honestly...I gotta ask...wtf? Ok, the transporters were kinda goofy....but motorcycles and airships? Azeroth is actually Final Fantasy 14 now?

There's nothing wrong with a little humor and whimsy. Warcraft has always had its own sense of quirkiness and that's not about to end anytime soon.

Sure I did, but this is the new millenium. There hasn't been a new story since the -last- millenium.

People still think Blur made "Blue Monday", that the Jedi was an original idea, and that "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is a new movie. We build on the backs of what has come before. So yes, it is very difficult to find a new original idea that there doesn't exist a prior example of.

When I took art history, the professor said "I will give an A to anyone who can give a truly new example of art" - and then for every attempt - gave pre-existing examples.

Try it - think of some reasonably good new story - and I'll give you examples of where it's already been done.

There is nothing new under the sun but there are lots of old things we don't know.

The older I get the dumber I feel - because I keep learning how much there is to know and how little of it I do!

I'm with you. I need a bigger memory bank in my brain and a photographic memory to go with it to access the information faster.

Cute quote, doesn't actually hold up here.
We DO know those old things, which is why they're so glaringly obvious we can construct tidy little lists citing specifically what and where an item was cribbed from.

Putting soft edges on everything, flipping through a thesaurus for a sightly different name and then adding a Disney-style color scheme is not adaptation, especially when Warhammer did the whole Cthulhu meets Tolkien with a side of steampunk deal earlier, and better.

It absolutely holds up. No matter what is created, someone, somewhere has thought of it, written about it, concepted it, etc. It doesn't necessarily mean someone has put it all together into one big creation though. It's all about how you put those things together to create something new. Given that Warcraft has created its own style, we can say it has its own uniqueness. You can disagree with that if you like, but it doesn't make it less true. It's easy to identify it when you see it as being from Warcraft (or WoW).

When you've created your wholly unique something, feel free to share it. I'm sure someone will tell you how it reminds you of "x" they once read, saw etc. Inspiration is like a fountain that all creativity pulls from and underneath that fountain is a giant river of thought and experiences that are known to all humanity. Look at mythology from various cultures and you're sure to see similar veins of thought and concepts stretching far back in history.

I could say the same to you in reverse, but the actual point here is Neth and anyone else involved with this game is delusional if they think they're work on Warcraft is anything more than adequate; it's as well constructed as a game as it is unoriginal in all other respects; no more, no less.

You're welcome to your ideas and opinions. I just don't agree. :)
