I just had my account hacked, went in and changed the password and then went and send an email to get my stuff back. My next thing was to get AVG installed on this computer (new computer) and scan.

After doing this the only thing that it found was 5 cookies. Could this cause my account compromise? I figured I would find a Trojan or something, nothing....

If someone could point me in the right direction to get this off my computer so I can log on with out stressing.

Thanks!

That is an excellent point, Ymi.

Why it's important to remember that even logging into these forums from any system but your own could be risking a breech.

It's also one of the better reasons why it's important not to share account information. First off of course, that's against our terms of use - but also, you have no knowledge or control over what system someone may use.

Once more than one system becomes involved - this process gets exponentially harder - if not impossible.

I shudder when I see posts that say "Yeah, I'm using my friends account to post here - cause I'm compromised and can't post". If they are using the same infected system, then their friend is next.

In your particular case, I hope you gave a heads up to your IT guys. Keyloggers are nasty, can be hard to find - and can grab just about any information they want.

You didn't mention if you changed your email password. We've seen an increase lately in email breakins. They wouldn't need access to any system if they can dip straight into your inbox.

But thank you very much for putting up this reminder for folks, using more than one system is fine - but the same precautions need to be taken no matter what system you use.
