Remodel playable characters?

Hey.

I've seen Furion and Thrall's new model and they look super great.
But I get pretty jealous of them, and wish we could look like them!
They look a lot more 3d and we look like all of our details look like it was just painted on.
Do you think you could start to remodel races?

We'd like to. There are mixed reports coming from BlizzCon about what was said there, but no matter what was said, we do have the idea of remodeling races on our radar (the older ones at least). We just have to find the right way to do it (without redoing things people already like) and the time to do it. We'll keep you informed though (as we go) on what we're able to get done in this regard.

Did a blue just post on a 1-year old necro thread? Really?

I bet she didn't notice... but... BUSTED, NETH! =D

It's true, I didn't, but I might as well leave the answer. Give me a break here, I just finished my first cup of coffee!

What kind of coffee? Straight Black? Cappuccino? Sugar?

Personally, I like just a little bit of milk and some splenda.

Milk and sugar (or Splenda if it's around).

I don't imagine it would be too difficult to upgrade the art without changing the looks (not talking workload so much as process)

Just increase texture resolution and flesh out the polygons a bit more.

Keep the same shape and the same look of course. For example, troll ears are triangles. Try to round them off a bit. Dwarf eyes need better resolution so they don't look like big blue squares in a white field. Round off their noses and give their beards better textures more akin to a blood elf hair piece.

We'd have to do more than just a simple re-texturing to really get the maximum impact out of this type of work. We've also done more with the newer races than just increase the polygon count. The "bones" and structure of the characters is much more intricate than they were at original ship of the game. (The newer races.) If you look at the recent video of the pandaren, we've upped the ante even more and the expressiveness of the race is incredible to see. We've always been of the mind that if we're going to do this, we're going to do it with Blizzard quality in mind and that means more than just slapping on a new coat of paint (so to speak.)

Ehm, I don't know what your source of information is, Nethaera, but Chris Robinson already confirmed during the Open Q&A panel at BlizzCon 2011 that the classic races overhaul comes with Mists of Pandaria.

Yes, I know what Chris said. I'm not refuting it. ;) I'm just trying to make sure people are aware it's not an easy process and will take a lot of work to accomplish.
