WotLK 10-day Trial Question

I've been leveling in Northrend...or should I say gaining experience in Northrend when I saw that my exp bar was completely full. I assumed from this that I couldn't level up my characters past 70 during the trial and that all the experience I'd gained past that point was wasted.

However, as I was killing random monsters for the heck of it, my double experience bar disappeared and returned to normal. This, I must say, has me extremely confused as to the nature of the trial.

Was the experience I gained past the 70 cap wasted, or is it being saved for future levels? When I upgrade my account, will my character finally level up too, or will all the experience just be gone forever?

Once your are one point away from reaching level 71 (while on the trial), you no longer accrue experience. When you purchase the expansion, you will be -- at most -- 1 experience point away from level 71; all additional experience gained during the trial will not be awarded.
