Any Universal Loot Rules?

I have been in many instance groups on my new main lately and basically called stupid for asking what the loot rules were at the start of each pug. Funny thing is when I get they they all seem different. On my old main's server we always did: Need all Greens, Need if Need/Greed all Blue BOE's, Need if Need/Greed on all Boss Blue or better BOP - or - if enchanter in the group all pass on Boss BOP's no one can use and roll for need or shard. Also no need rolls for an 'off' set ' if someone in the group can use it.

However - ran quite a few where tanks and rogues are rolling need on BOE blues - cloth for example - even though there are 3 clothies in the group (priest/lock/mage) and it's an upgrade for one or all saying - too bad it's easy cash. Even rolling need on BOP Boss blues say if a weapon drops no one can/will use and there is an enchanter in the group. Oh and the ever popular 'I rolled need for my alt' /sigh.

Is this normal for pugs or are the idiot pugs on my new main server just that haha. Mind you I've been in 10-12 of them like this and one person even said 'that's the way it has always been done on _____', it's all easy cash and no one gets upgrades in instances anymore".

And yes this is not my main - not calling anyone out or asking to be called out in return ;).

If I am in the group, pass on everything. You can either profit by this, or be destroyed.

...

I mean, um, overall I don't think there are precise universal loot rules. When running with new people it doesn't hurt to ask and make sure everybody is on the same page. If anything things should be figured out when the first boss is killed so the most important loot on the last boss is properly organized.
