So....we have a guild named bangorang, which as every1 knows is a reference to the Disney movie "Captain Hook." Except my main account has been suspended and the guild has been locked and according to an email i got:

The name selected for this guild has been deemed as inappropriate for the World of Warcraft by the In-Game Support staff of Blizzard Entertainment, as a result your guild name has been changed to a temporary name.

To have the name of your guild changed to one of your choosing, please reply to this email with your top 5 choices, in order of most wanted to least wanted. We will change the name based on your order of preference and availability.

So can someone tell me why a name like this would be banned ? The ONLY reason i can think of is if a GM Admin was using urban dictionary to check for word considered "Inappropriate" but the fact that the website is user controlled and created means I could go into the site and make some crazy.....perverse sexual "move" called blizzard and then report the company for an "inappropriate" name. So clearly it cannot be that to which they refer.

I Mean its a reference to a disney movie....c'mon.

While this particular name may, indeed, be a reference from a well-known Disney film--"Bangarang, Rufio!"--and does not specifically suggest ill intent, it can be interpreted quite poorly. The distinction is rather borderline, I will admit; however, the fact remains that your guild name is--and, more pointedly, has been deemed by our department to be--inappropriate and in violation of policy.

You're welcome to protest this particular action by contacting [email protected], Tatters. If this is your chosen route, I wish you the best of luck.

In the meantime, though, I would sincerely suggest that you do not attempt to "beat the system" by only slightly modifying the referenced name's current spelling. We're a clever bunch. Don't tempt us.

No. Game Masters possess final authority.

That's quite a remarkable correlation, Menu. I congratulate you on being able to draw such a profound connection between two very-clearly disparate concepts.

I'll inform the rest of the department.

Our Copyright concerns are very particular, Tatters, and do not apply to this specific situation. :)

You do that, glad I could waste your time, donkey sucker. :)

You're precious. And possess such spirit!

While I do hate to rain on your parade, please keep your language in check. Thanks. :)

I'm not really worried of being banned, believe me.

And I'm not overly concerned about actually applying such a penalty (should the need arise). I am, however, asking you to be considerate of other members of this forum.

This thread is delving into treacherous territory.

As a final iteration: The guild name in question--at the discretion of the Game Master department--has been deemed to be inappropriate in nature. The source or reason for such a decision is ultimately irrelevant; however, the cited interpretation was likely not the driving force behind such a change.

Tatters, once more, you are welcome to dispute the action by contacting Account Administration.
