12:20 PM PST- All realms are now available for play. We would like to thank you for your patience and we’ll see you in Azeroth!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will be extending the regularly scheduled maintenance by two hours and expect to have all realms available at approximately 1:00 PM PST.

I know that people hate to hear that there is an extended maintenance, but we'd rather take a little extra time to get things set up properly and running properly than bring the realms up and have things go wrong. (As people have experienced before.)

That said, last week we had rolling restarts and there has been more than one occasion that the realms have been brought live before the normally announced time. So those of you who are saying they are never up on time or that all of the maintenances are forgetting that this isn't quite true.

We wanted to make sure that we gave plenty of notice ahead of time for the extension (of the extended regularly scheduled maintenance) and will make sure everyone is made aware of any further information whether it's a further extension or realms being brought up sooner than the allotted two hour time frame.

Q u o t e:

Neth, thanks.

I think actually explaining (in layman's terms of course) why it had to be extended would go a long way in easing people's nerves. Something like "without this extended maintenance there is a big possibility that we could repeat the 'lost items in the mail' issue again" would definitely put it in perspective and settle things down.

Just a thought!

People have a tendency to think the worst no matter how much information they are given. We don't do extended maintenance without good reason and generally, the reasoning is that we want to make sure that the community continues to have as good an experience in game as possible. That means, making sure new things in the game are there, databases are running smoothly, functions and features of the game are working as intended, etc.

We've just released a major addition to the game, and while it can be frustrating to have downtime, there are a lot of moving parts to deal with that we are making sure we have working all together rather than having people find that the aspect of the game they enjoy most is not working for them.
