People should be evaluating the quality of a post based its own merits and not how many posts the person has (or hasn't) made.

If that's the case why can we see the + and - count?

Post count was just a measure of how long someone has been on the forums, or how much they fill it with posts that are just "This ^" or "lol". The number means nothing.

Votes actually reflect something. How many people agree with you, disagree with you, thought a post was funny, etc. They have relevance to the thread topics.

They may not do much in controversial topics, but what ever has?

This.
