DPS in Wotlk (Long)

The changes that we have seen come in the area of DPS have been overall really really good. I play with 5 people who are all really close friends of mine and we live in the same town and we have alot of fun playing this game.

When we heard about all of the upcoming changes in Wrath, we got really excited, finally sarah with her druid can do what she wanted all along RAID as BOOMKIN. lol Instead of being a healing spec.

Chuck has 1 of every class and quit playing until he got his DK, the 1 class he had said he wanted 3 years ago, and we all laugh about how know he can play it. lol (Although he thinks death coil should be taken away from Warlocks, due to it being an original DK talent)

Now he can either tank or dps, he loves it.

Now I am the first of the group to hit 80. they are 77 and 78, I am running heroics, etc etc. I don't have considerably better gear, but I do have better.

Now Sarah still outdps me and not by some, ALOT. Chuck on his DK, KILLS both of us on the charts WHILE tanking.

Now my question is WHY bring me to a raid? What do I bring that Sarah's Boomkin doesn't bring? Boomkins can innervate, resurrect, AWESOME Buff, aoe, sustain dps.....and I bring healthstones :( soulstones and etc. but that is about it.

I am really really happy everyone can have fun with there class in the way they wanted to play now. I however do not bring nearly has much DPS has some of these other classes who ALSO have way more Utility.

Another example is my friend Alex a fury warrior (used to be our tank but is now dps) got kicked from a Nexus group for a Ret pally, because the ret pally brings more. Buffs, backup heals although limited, he can still do it. And at the same time bring the same if not more dps.

Soooo, what is the deal? I don't mind this, but I do seem to remeber Devs saying "pure" dps classes, with no other choice but to dps would do AT least 3-5% more damage in equivilant gear. Some "hybrids" are pulling ahead of me by ALOT in lesser quality gear?

If you read all this thank you,

Roktar.

We do want dps to be a lot closer than it was in BC (assuming equal gear and skill, which players always conveniently assume that they have). If it's not ther yet, we will get it there.

The goal is that nobody has a unique buff. The goal is that nobody has a buff or ability so amazing that they always earn raid spots, or that you stack them in a group in preference to other classes. Until we design encounters that can handle one of every spec, we don't want you to only take the specs with the best buffs (and woe be to the group in which there are two or three of you with the same spec in that situation).

Innervate and Rebirth are amazing abilities, true. But so are Soulstones, Health Stones and Summoning. I don't really see a lot of situations where raids are stacking druids because of Innervate or Rebirth though. To some extent, both of those abilities are those you ideally never want to use and which become increasingly less useful the closer the content gets to be on farm.

And ultimately, I really don't want to derail the thread into the pros and cons of all the various class abilities. That is a big discussion.

But we do want you to have room to take who you want without worrying so much about class abilities.
