Well, because it wouldn't be an achievement if you didn't have to do something to earn it now would it? It's just an extra bonus and if it's not appealing to you, don't do it.
Also, we have an Achievement forum now so if you wish to share constructive feedback on any of the Achievements there or discuss them, that would be the ideal place to do so.

Even with the increase in drop rates/ trick or treating, i still never saw a squashling but I am not a big fan of achievments so its no big deal to me.
I never got my helm. I think I'll manage to survive until next Hallow's End though.
