<Random player 1>: Why the hell are you doing achievements, they're not worth anything, except for maybe the ones with a mount or a title.

<Random player 2>: I don't know, whatever.

Two Days Later

<Random player 2> has earned the <Hallow's End> achievement.
<Random player 1> has earned the <Hallow's End> achievement.
<Random player 1> I'm going to all the cities next to get the treats achievement.
<Random player 2> Ok, cool.

Anyone else see achievements catching on like this?

The Achievement System has shown me all the things I had missed along the way while leveling. I'm sure there are others that rocketed along, leveling with the guild or friends, that are looking at the list now going "I really didn't do that yet?" or "I haven't been there yet on this character?"

Of course, there are also those achievements you know you did, but since they aren't completely retroactive, you have that urge to go do it again. This is not a bad thing and I think has been fun to do.

All in all, I'm enjoying them and finding that even though I have advocated taking your time and smelling the roses, that even I have missed some along the way.

Q u o t e:
achievements = a way to give you a false sense that theres something new to accomplish when there really isnt.

cant tell you how many people i know that are going after "the explorer" title.

WOW ITS GUNNA B COOL I AM THE EXPLORER!

"why does that guy have an explorer title?"

"he has no life, revisited every old zone in the game and just walked around doing nothing uncovering map... in every....single....zone."

"so it's like a dunce cap kinda?"

I like exploring. In fact just after killing, it's right up there. You know, it's... fun... Shocking, I know. But true.

Nothing says excessive playtime like a bunch of meaningless objectives for a title.

You're absolutely right Bloodsail Admiral Excise!

Back in the day, between 2-3 hour BG ques. You had to do something ;)

I don't like the concept of Achievements replacing non-leveling character advancement.

It's not replacing anything. It's just an addition. For new players or people leveling new characters, it all goes along with them. For those with max characters, it's just something fun to do. When you reach Northrend, there will be Achievements you'll get without necessarily just going for that achievement, but will get because you're doing those things anyway.
