Realm Issues - 10/16/08

Hey there guys.

We're aware that there are still issues affecting many realms, and we're currently working hard to resolve them. Rather than having multiple threads scattered across the forum, I ask that you post in this thread with the name of your realm, the name of your battlegroup if you know it, and what issues you're experiencing specifically.

Please refrain from other comments here, as this is intended to be a thread where we provide updates and gather information. If you'd like to request compensation, such determinations would be made only after things stabilize, and the Suggestions forum is the correct locale for those requests.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We are working feverishly to get things working smoothly again as soon as we possibly can.

You can our website here to find out which battlegroup your realm is on:

Thank you guys, this is just the kind of information that is useful to us.

We are aware of and working on most of these issues, but I'll see what I can do about acquiring a more specific update for you all.

Sorry for the typo in the title too >.<.

any ETA on said realms becoming active?

I'm working to get some solid information as we speak. Hopefully I'll have something solid for you guys soon.

Okay guys, I've received word that the realms of the Stormstrike battlegroup should be stabilizing now. If you play on one of the following realms, please let me know if you continue to experience issues, and please be specific about exactly what you're experiencing:

Andorhal
Anetheron
Archimonde
Black Dragonflight
Dalaran
Dalvengyr
Dentarg
Duskwood
Executus
Haomarush
Khadgar
Mal'Ganis
Norgannon
Scilla
Steamwheedle Cartel
Thrall
Turalyon
Ysera
Ysondre
Zuluhed

Additionally, log-in issues for Azjol-Nerub and Feathermoon should be resolved as well. Please let me know if you are still having issues logging into either Feathermoon or Azjol-Nerub.

I will continue to perform research regarding the other realms reported:

Area 52
Darkspear
Destromath
Sargeras
Zul'jin

Currently, these issues do not seem to be widespread. If your report is the only one concerning latency on a given realm, it may be best to consult our Technical Support forum regarding potential causes for latency. It is also very wise to perform a full user interface reset. Here are the most up to date instructions:

Q u o t e:

1) *IMPORTANT* Exit the World of Warcraft to your desktop by logging out of the game and exiting. If World of Warcraft isn't closed, then these steps won't have the desired effect.

2) If you used an "installer" for a custom UI, see if it has an "uninstaller" and use it.

3) Inside the World of Warcraft Program Folder, delete the "WTF," "Cache," and "Interface" folders.

4) Restart your computer.

5) Please do not reinstall Addons prior to testing the issue you were experiencing.

6) Make sure that you are using WOW.EXE or LAUNCHER.EXE to start the game. Please do not run any UI installers beforehand, as we want to eliminate them as part of the issue.

7) Upon launching the game, you should see the Intro cinematic movie and be prompted to agree to the Terms of Use. Once you authenticate past the login screen, the “AddOns” button should no longer be visible at the lower left corner of the character selection screen. Both points mentioned previously must hold true if you should complete the aforementioned steps correctly.

*IMPORTANT*: Please note that certain options (basic Interface Panel options such as combat text, macros, and keybindings) are now stored realm side and will not be reset using this method.

Have you tried any other characters on that realm?

Q u o t e:
Illidan

This serve has been experiancing many latency issues for the past 3 to 4 weeks. Durring peak hours (~5pm EST to 2am EST) this server spikes from a normal 80-100ms ping to surges of about 2000-6000ms. After a few spikes the server will hold a consistent 1500ms ping with a 4-6 second delay on all casting, interactions, and all chat. Since the patch the server now has long waits on the loading screen of about 1-20 minutes and frequent world server crashes. My guild has not had one smooth raid in weeks because of this and even lost several bear mounts :(

Thank you

We're aware of the issues regarding Illidan, though that appears to be a different issue than the more temporary issues that have been reported in this thread.

We certainly haven't forgotten you guys, and we're still working to get Illidan into peak shape.

Q u o t e:
I would say the latency isnt just me or a technical support issue. It is all over trade. Everyone in my group is reporting severly high latency. Every one in trade, everyone. Nobody is reporting good results. No addons being used nothing...Terribly high latency.

Check the realm forums people are complaing there as well. It is a server issue and seing as it was posted on the tech support forums and they moved it to here then it is def. a realm issue. I can log onto other characters on other realms and experience no latency. It is only when I log onto sargeras. What is really sad is sargeras is listed as a medium pop server. But when I log onto fire-tree even with a que i get no latency as opposed to sargeras latency. Sad.

I just checked Sargeras, and it appears to be running pretty smoothly. Please let me know if this changes though!

Okay guys, I just got finished investigating all the individual realms that have been reported, and I wasn't experiencing latency in any of the major locations (capital cities, as well as specifically reported zones). Merely because I didn't happen to experience any doesn't mean that it's not happening though.

Still, it really is a good idea to perform a full user interface reset and check our Technical Support forum for tips on reducing video lag and the like, just as a helpmeet in the meantime. We'll also be keeping our eyes open.

In addition, we're currently investigating arena related latency on all battlegroups.

Okay, some changes have been made to the arenas which should help reduce or eliminate the issues you guys have reported.

Can you guys let me know if you're still experiencing the same arena issues as you were previously? If you wish to test, skirmish is probably safest, though may not be as representative.

Thanks for the feedback guys. We'll continue investigating the arena issues to see if we can affect an improvement.

Thanks for providing this information, and I'd like to say again that your patience is immensely appreciated.

Okay guys, I've returned.

Thank you all for continuing to provide updates! I'll do some research on this new round of realm issues and see what I can kind of information I can acquire for you guys.

I've also confirmed that while the arena issues haven't been resolved as yet, they are being investigated actively. I'll provide an update on that when and if it becomes available.

Just to alleviate some confusion, the following realms on the Stormstrike Battlegroup are currently down and undergoing a maintenance. There isn't currently an ETA available on when it will be complete, but I don't believe that it should take long:

Andorhal
Anetheron
Archimonde
Black Dragonflight
Dalaran
Dalvengyr
Dentarg
Duskwood
Executus
Haomarush
Khadgar
Mal'Ganis
Norgannon
Scilla
Steamwheedle Cartel
Thrall
Turalyon
Ysera
Ysondre
Zuluhed

Executus
Haomarush
Khadgar

Steamwheedle Cartel

Additionally, thanks to your efforts, we are currently investigating issues on Ruin, Shadowburn and Nightfall currently. Hopefully I'll have more information on those realms for you soon.

Ours isn't on the list either.

Correct. However, both Sentinels and Onyxia are on Nightfall, one of the three Battlegroups I've reported as being under investigation currently.

Unfortunately, I do not have an update on those battlegroups just yet, though I once again apologize that you guys are still experiencing issues.

I'll get any information I receive to you guys as soon as I can, though.
Q u o t e:

Please rename server to SkullCRASHER. Thanks!

Okay =/.

Edit: Not really.

Q u o t e:
Skullcrusher is STILL down. I'd like a blue post that does not regard to an automated machine doing the work.

Indeed, and we're still investigating. I could make something up, I guess =/? Okay, here goes:

I know you guys have been concerned about the realm of Skullcrusher, and other Ruin realms that are currently experiencing issues, and would like to know what is going on.

Well, this information is typically unavailable, but I did some special research to bring it to you:

As it happens, the President was kidnapped by ninjas =(. Only the realm of Skullcrusher was a 'bad enough dude' to rescue the President. After receiving a wooden sword from an old man in a cave, Skullcrusher set out into the creepy tunnels of an eerie space hideout in search of the missing world leader. Fortunately, Skullcrusher knew the secret code to get 30 guys, and had all the bullets necessary to open the doors in its way. Please note: Only Skullcrusher (and every video game character with a gun from the 80s) possesses the necessary skill to open doors with bullets. Please do not try this at home. The President was, unfortunately, in another castle.

As a result, Skullcrusher hasn't yet rescued the President and received its cheeseburger reward. It will likely be unavailable until then.

Or, alternatively, we're still investigating and working hard to bring up Skullcrusher in a timely manner, and in top functionality too. Apologies if the truth seems a bit robotic =(.

Please do not misunderstand: Despite the jokes, I do take this matter quite seriously, and we're treating it with the utmost gravity. I hope to have an update for you soon.

Okay guys, I just received an update on this.

There are (obviously) substantial issues with these battlegroups, but causes are being isolated. Unfortunately, as these issues are extensive, it may take considerable time to resolve them. Regrettably I'm unable to provide the details, though I'm sure you guys would appreciate a more specific explanation.

The affected battlegroups are Ruin, Shadowburn and Nightfall. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the situation, it is unlikely that they will be at full functionality soon.

We will continue to work on these realms until the matter is resolved.

Q u o t e:
Keep getting stuck. Each time it came after hearthing into scryer inn in Shat. Stepped out, couldn't mount. Next thing I know I'm over the great sea. This 2nd time, GM can't seem to get me out.

After getting stuck I have trouble connecting to server again for several minutes
While Stuck it tends to boot me from game frequently

Realm: Hellscream
Battlegroup: Rampage

This is very likely a different issue from those affecting these battlegroups (I will investigate nonetheless though!). You can try performing a full user interface reset, and submitting a new in-game petition. To my genuine regret, I'm not in a position to intercede in this situation based on a forum report, but I wish you luck on getting back into the game soon.

Here are the instructions for a full reset:

We're aware of, and investigating, the issues on Alleria, Uldaman and Anvilmar.

Unfortunately, there is no update currently available on potential resolutions for these realms, but if one should become available, we'll provide it as we receive it.
