Arena Issues 10/17

Blizzard Post
Hey guys!

We've received reports that arenas are experiencing much higher levels of latency than they should. While we've been working to resolve this, unfortunately, it appears that the issues have persisted.

In an effort to gather information and provide a more lasting solution, it would be helpful to us if you can post in this thread describing the situation you've experienced in the following format:

Realm: <realm name>
Battlegroup: <battlegroup name> (you can locate your battlegroup here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/battlegrounds/battlegroups/)
Issue: <describe the nature of the latency or issue you are experiencing here>

Please refrain from other comments here, as this is intended to be a thread where we provide updates and gather information. As always, I thank you guys for both your patience and cooperation. Hopefully we'll be able to get things back to normal quickly via our combined efforts!

UPDATE:
This thread is now locked. For the sake of gathering clear and up to date data, we're continuing this thread here:

I don't mean to seem ungrateful, but it would be helpful to restrict reports exclusively to arenas entered today, if possible. There were resolutions implemented last night that may have resolved this issue on some battlegroups, and I'd like to gather the most up to the minute information possible.

Regardless, thank you all for taking the time to post! It really is a great help to us.

Hello again!

I've just received word that another resolution was implemented in an effort to resolve the issue. For those of you in the position to do so, can you please attempt to run an arena or skirmish match, and let me know what you experience?

Thank you for the reports, you've all been great.

We are still investigating, and your patience while we seek out the causes is much appreciated. Unfortunately, as of this exact moment I don't have an ETA for a resolution, but the situation is certainly not being ignored.

UPDATE:

We're still gathering information and investigating.

In an effort to help isolate contributing factors, I'd like to ask if you guys entered any battlegrounds at all since this issue began.

If so, are you currently experiencing similar latency or issues within battlegrounds as you've had in the arenas?

Please note: Substantial delays upon triggering abilities that should occur instantly are indeed a form of latency. When I refer to latency, it definitely includes this behavior.

Can we get an update or an ETA if available please?

To my regret, I don't have any useful information to impart at the moment. I can say that the situation is being actively investigated, but there aren't any new updates available currently.

You guys have been excellent regarding providing the requested information though. Thank you very much for your help!

Hey guys! Sorry I've been absent, but I'll seek out some information and see what I can provide.

It may be that the arena issues are linked to the larger issues that have been occurring, which could explain the slower resolution time than we'd like. I don't have any hard information immediately available though, and that is largely conjecture on my part.

Regardless, please pardon my absence. I'll get back to you with an update as soon as possible and if one isn't currently available, I'll inform you of that as well.

I do have some limited information to impart. Some steps were implemented to resolve the arena latency, but unfortunately (and obviously), they were not as successful as had been hoped.

We're still investigating, and realm issues (including the arenas), are a top priority currently. I do not have an ETA currently, and it will likely be some time before we see a resolution though.

I know that isn't the best news, but I'm trying to be as forthright as possible. As always, should we get further information, we'll do our utmost to update you guys immediately.

This issue, amongst others affecting many realms, is still under investigation.

I know that frustration and feelings are running high right now, but we are working constantly to get these situations resolved. I truly regret that we've been unable to do so more swiftly.

Many of you have been incredibly patient while we've worked to do so, and I'd like to thank you personally for your forbearance. That's probably small consolation in the face of the arena and realm issues, but it is a heartfelt sentiment.

Please bear with us, and we will work to get things back to normal as soon as we can. As always, should I get anything solid regarding an ETA or an update, I'll provide it as soon as possible.

Since you hated being called out, let me repost.

Group: Whirlwind
Server: Shu'Halo

Issue: Nothing has changed for a week now. Hire new techs.

Nothin' personal Aralern. From my original post:

Thanks for hand-holding us through this difficult time Malkorix. I've been logging on, test to see if arenas are broken still. If they are I do a few BGs to get my PvP fix, maybe do an HH run, then log off.

I so wanted to test out all these new 3.0 class changes in 2v2, but haven't been able to. >< But I'll keep trying and waiting, hoping a fix is right around the corner.

It's the least I can do. I wish I had more progress to report, or at least some kind of hard information regarding an expected ETA.

I meant what I said though - thank you guys, very much, for being downright awesome during a pretty rough period.

I also would like to thank the Blues from keeping us informed, but I've got a question. This morning I logged on around 9am EDT, and noticed some lag, but not to an unbearable amount, but later this afternoon, during peak time, I noticed it was back. Is this lag stemming from a bug in the coding, or is it simply the latency on the server side?

We're not typically at liberty to discuss specific causes, for a variety of reasons. I think it's safe to say though that the potential causes stem from a variety of sources. While high populations may be a contributing factor, the root causes seem to be much more complex.

As a result of this complexity, identification, isolation and resolution have proven to be substantial challenges. I hope that adds a little bit of clarity, but I am sorry that I'm unable to be more specific.

Q u o t e:
so i see you u deleted both of my posts
u dont want get called out on the crappy services that u provide, then improve it, besides, if u r so active on monitoring these forums on deleting, shouldnt u spend that time go badgering techs -- which r shielded away from customer wrath by YOU-- to actually FIX this?

I opted to provide what little additional information I could. I broke from the normal format of this thread momentarily to provide a little additional detail that I thought you guys might appreciate.

This was not license to vent actively regarding recent events and isn't why I volunteered that information, nor is this the appropriate thread for it. If you have concerns about how I've moderated this thread, then you can certainly feel free to submit an email to wowgmfeedback-us@blizzard.com expressing them there.

This isn't a matter of getting 'called out' but rather, keeping the thread on track. There is an appropriate avenue to air your concerns, and this isn't it =/.

It seems to be a favorite tactic of certain posters to suggest that there are more productive uses for our time than moderating posts that violate the forum code of conduct. Unfortunately, while I'm sorry that some may have taken personal offense to moderation, none was intended.

I am a conduit for information, and I moderate these forums. That's all I'm personally able to do, and I'm sorry if you find that disappointing.

I'm unable to influence developers, 'bug' technicians, or otherwise hasten the resolutions to these issues. I will, however, provide what updates I can, and do my utmost to keep the lines of communication as free as possible.

On that note, further posts that fall outside of the parameters I've requested for this thread will continue to be deleted, as they have been.

As I noted with a different poster, it's nothing personal, and please do not view it as an attack.

Q u o t e:

There is something going on server side. They can't say what it is as it could reveal trade secrets and the like. They know there is a problem. They are working to resolve it. It's not a simple problem so it is difficult to say when it may be fixed. As an engineer myself, you can't really guess when a problem will be really fixed as other things tend to creep up once you think you've found a solution. Plus, setting ETAs as to when it may be fixed tends to cause even more problems than saying nothing at all (As people complain when you miss the deadline).

You have to just be patient and wait it out. It'll be fixed eventually, just be patient. :)

Thank you for the extremely insightful post, Bucwild =).

On that note, let's return to the strict reporting format though. As always, if I have anything new for you guys, I'll get it to you as soon as I can.
