Account Lost! Email Changed! What Can I Do??

So, when I got to college, I started losing time to dedicate to playing wow, but now that WotLK is just around the corner, I'm getting excited to come back to play. I attempted to log back in to my account, and I haven't been able to do so, because it says that the email associated with my account no longer matches their records. I NEVER changed my account information, nor have I EVER shared it with other individuals to play. I have no idea how this happened, and I'm really sad that I'll have to start all over and grind a ridiculous amount of experience to even play the new expansion content.

I submitted the online form already, but after reading the "account compromise" FAQ, I'm just worried that there's nothing I can do to get it back. Can anyone help?

(Formerly),

Virilio / Mug'thol

PS - I have all of my contact information AND the account's original credit card available. Am I totally screwed?

You read the FAQ and after reading it you believe there is nothing you can do to reclaim the account? O.o

* Help me! My password seems to have been changed and I can no longer access my account. What can I do?

To restore access to your account as quickly as possible, please visit our Account Recovery page and be prepared to answer your secret question:
https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/loginsupport/password.html

If you no longer have access to your registered email address, or if your registered email address has been changed without your permission, please contact Billing & Account Services as soon as possible:
http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20606

If you are unable to remember the answer to your secret question, please complete the following form and then contact Billing:

# I have changed my password and had access restored to my account, but all of my characters are deleted. How can I get them back?

You will now need to contact our Game Master department via an in-game petition from any character on your account (create a new character, if necessary). You may also submit an e-mail to [email protected]; however, ALL reports of a compromised account must come from a character on the account, the registered email address of the account, or an account registered to someone with the same last name. Your claim will then be forwarded onto our Account Investigators for further analysis.

Should one or more of your characters have been transferred to another realm or off your account, or if any character on your account had its name changed without your permission, please complete and submit the Paid Character Transfer Abuse or Paid Character Name Change Abuse form(s):

:)

Contact our Billing Department during business hours, Virillia. If you can verify that you are the registered user on the account they'll be able to help you.

You can call 1 (800) 592 5499 (1-800-59-BLIZZARD) Monday through Friday 8AM-8PM (PDT) for live representation.
Australian users should please call 1-800-041-378 if the standard 800 line does not work.

Thanks for the quick reply--I am just a little freaked out because no one else has access to my email so I don't know how this could have happened.

Understandable, Virillia.

Make sure you review the following post on computer security if you haven't already.

either you bought your account and the seller took it back, or you sold your account and you want to take it back.
I have no idea how your email address could be changed without your confirmation.

Please don't jump to presumptions of this nature, Whitehaired.

I can think of one very easy way - and it happens more than many people realize. Often when an account is compromised - the email is also compromised. With access to someone else's email, it's not that hard to change the email the account points to.
