Brewfest and its Rams (or lack thereof)

I read a comment here (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33977#comments) that says this year's Brewfest won't give Rams to Horde, but it will give a Brewfest-style Kodo. I hate this. I didn't get a Brewfest Ram last year because I wasn't playing much at that time, but why does Horde want more Kodos? Aside from that, the Brewfest Kodo looks similar to the War Kodo.

Instead of giving the Alliance Brewfest Rams and the Horde Brewfest Kodos, please allow Horde to earn Rams and give Alliance the chance to earn a Kodo, mounts that they could not normally get and would be special for each side.

If not this change, then please scrap the Kodo idea and leave the Rams as they were last year - Rams make the most sense anyway, they are the mounts of Dwarves, who are the most drunken and bar fighterish of any race!

I apologize, but we're keeping in the implementation as it stands: Horde will receive Kodos and Alliance will get Rams. I realize fully that this is disappointing to many of you, but the decision was made not to homogenize the racial mounts further among factions at this point.

(Edit to add:) As I mention later in this thread, we talked a great deal about the feedback when it first came up on the PTR, so your concerns were not ignored, but while we did make some adjustments, the mount faction divide remains.

I hope despite this you'll enjoy the festivities of Brewfest, as the Dark Iron attack is back and there's new content to explore.

Retroactively change all Brewfest ram spells learned by Horde characters to kodos, then.

Thank you.

We will not be doing this, as those players earned their mounts legitimately.

then why even have Brewfest? Most people participate just for the mounts. Alliance and Horde can get rams/kodos through PVP and reputation.

Because the event is about more than just the mount. With all respect, while it certainly was a goal last year, it wasn't the entirety of the event, nor should it be. I'm sure many players will still enjoy themselves regardless.

Then any possible logic you have concerning 'homogenizing' racial mounts fails.

Why not make it all kodos this year, and then revert to what you're doing?

While you're at it, re-implement Ravasaurs and give the Alliance a buyable bat mount from some OL faction. That is all.

While I appreciate your suggestions, we will not be implementing them at this time.

You'll note I said further homogenization, which is still quite valid.

I realize this is unpopular, and I apologize if there were expectations unmet this year, but I hope you'll still find something to enjoy about the event.

I'm fine with no cross-faction mounts, and I'm also fine with letting Horde keep their rams from last year.

I'm glad to see Kisirani say there will be mounts again this year. I'm also a bit confused. The Brewfest page that was updated a few days ago says nothing about purchasable mounts. The only mounts it mentions are the rare-drop mounts off of the boss in Blackrock Depths (Coren Direbrew).

That information is correct; where is the confusion?

Q u o t e:
The confusion is over whether we'll be able to purchase mounts with tokens or not. Since the Brewfest page doesn't mention it or list it among the other purchaseable items, it looks like we won't be able to buy them. It looks like the only way to get them is via the rare drops from Corin Direbrew.

Is that the case, or will we be able to buy our mounts with Brewfest tokens as well?

Permanent mounts are not purchasable this year, but accessible through the boss, yes.

Can I ask what is a downside to just making players from either side able to get either the Kodo or the Ram (or both) each year at Brewfest? I would think all the arguing about this would die down quickly.

And just to note in case it seems like I'm biased, I already have my Brewfest ram from last year, so my only interest in this subject is as a bystander role, really.

It's a matter of faction identity; kodos are one of the most iconic mounts the Horde has, and the decision was made to prevent homogenization of the look of the factions further by giving this mount permanently to Alliance.

It is worth noting that the temporary mount-related items on the vendors aren't restricted to Kodos for Horde and Rams for Alliance, though.

But... it's ok to give away an "iconic" Alliance mount? Why?

The Rams aren't being repeated this year, either; we removed the ability for Horde to get them, but as those people who did achieve them last year did so legitimately, we're not taking them away.

thanks again blizz for screwing me . 10 tickets short of getting a mount last year and you take all of that away. What do you want me to do with all of these tickets I EARNED?

Turn them into tokens and use them on the other rewards this year, if you're interested in them.

I understand you're upset, and I sympathize, but the content changed.

Kisirani, I have a question for you.

Honestly, if someone really wanted the mounts this year and killed the boss as often as they could, do you think the chance of them getting it is fair? Including the 1/5 chance if it actually drops.

I think it's certainly possible considering the length of the holiday and the drop rate of the mount. It isn't remotely like Baron Rivendare or Attumen.

One little question, it says you're the "world designer" in your sig. Does this mean you make all the little NPCs say stuff and all that stuff and make all the weird holidays?

Or did you do things like design Dalaran and Ice Crown?

If you do the lattter, I take back my insults.

My team works on a number of things: the holidays are among them, yes, but also spawning the cities, graveyards, flightpaths, etc.

I really dislike you now.....i have been farming baron for months now.

Please leave this forum.

You dislike me because it's easier to get a mount from a boss that's level 70 and around for two weeks than from a boss that's 60 and around all year...? I'm just trying to make sure that's what you're saying.

Now is not the time to be sarcastic with this community.

Also, this thread makes me sad that I did not get the chance to participate in Brewfest last year.

I honestly wasn't being sarcastic; I was seeking clarification.

Question: if they're temporary mounts, could we get Temporary (note, temporary) kodos because they're such an iconic figure for the horde, it would be amazing to have them just for 2 weeks time.

Yep, sure can.

Kisirani, why don't you make a poll of some sort? After all, Blizzard is trying to make the game fun and enjoyable for all players. However, destroying it and making it unfair to both factions just makes us cry.

Please Kisirani, we want to enjoy a small fraction of the game on our Kodos/Rams. It's not hard, just throw a 2MB patch and we will be happy.

Thanks.

With all respect, we cannot patch the event at this point; patches are a bit harder than you surmise.

The patch mention was a direct response to Samman's comment that a patch was a simple fix.

Regardless, I appreciate the feedback, and we talked about it a long time when it first came up on the PTR; we didn't ignore it. However, the result of the discussion was that Brewfest is as it stands today.

Kisirani, I realize that it's too late for the event to be patched this year, but I'd like to propose a compromise for next year.

There continue to be many negative reactions to the lack of cross-faction Brewfest mounts on both sides, obviously. Your announcement that permanent mounts would not be obtainable through hand stamps the way they were previously was also met with negative feedback.

I suggest that next year, you bring back the hand stamps. Make it possible for players to obtain their own faction's mount through the Brewfest hand stamps, and to obtain the other faction's mount through killing Coren Direbrew.

I personally would be very happy if you did that, and I think it would be an acceptable compromise for many of us. Not ideal maybe, but acceptable.

Thanks for the reasonable posts, Eamil. I'll bring this to people and we'll discuss it for the future. No promises, of course.

<snip>

The idea of something new to get with the tickets (which are earned in an enjoyable way that's only available once a year) was much more appealing than stuff that I'll have to grind for (especially stuff that I could get in the same method year-round... grinding.)

As to homogenization, considering that the brewfest boss sounds like ahune that sounds like the headless horseman, what about holiday homogenization?

There are new things, like the Brew of the Month Club, and your concerns about the holidays are certainly noted. Thanks. :)

What about the Dark Iron Tankard? Someone addressed it earlier, but went unanswered.

I got mine last year, but I know it was only for a brief moment the first day last year someone could get one. (I'd also like to take this time to admit I was a mug spammer. Sorry!)

... Is there any way to get it again this year, or is it just going to be another thing casted off to the side to rot?

Or to go with Eamil's post, is there any way to re-implement it into future Brewfests if it's too late this year?

I missed that, thanks.

I don't believe there's a way to get it this year due to Coren changing, but yes, I'll bring that up, too. :)
