Gold should be reset in WOTLK

People will buy BoE epics, level their tradeskills to get good gear. Unfair advantage.

It's a shame you haven't discovered that there are human beings behind the blue text capable of making mistakes. Not every statement that isn't true is a lie.

Don't be hypocrites

.

You are resetting honor so all start on a more level playing field in the next expansion. Since this is a stated goal now, instead of announcing these things one by one, please just tell us now that you are also resetting all the other currencies in the game. This means things like the sporlings spores , and of course gold. While you are at it, to make the field level on entry to the new expansion you will of course be giving us all a basic started set of a gear too right? Please just announce it now if this is indeed your design goal. If not then please give us the real reason behind the honor reset, and stop the hypocrisy.

We never said it's our goal to level the playing field across the boards. We recognize that some players will have advantages over others and are not looking to take every advantage away. The original post of this thread is silly, as are all similar hyperbolic reactions to the announcement of the honor wipe. If you're trying to make a point by saying every distinction and advantage a character may have going into the expansion should be removed, you're welcome to continue the key strokes -- provided you do not violate the forum Code of Conduct -- however, I hope you realize it accomplishes little. We don't respond well to hyperbole.

Players are welcome to take issue with the honor wipe. We recognize that some players have been working hard collecting honor in the hopes of using it when level 80 is reached. The simple fact is some players were expecting to walk into Wrath of the Lich King with honor accumulated and pick off of the shelves the latest PvP tiered epic sets. The way PvP gear is earned in the next expansion is changing slightly. Anyone who wants the newest PvP epic sets will need to start fresh in the expansion accumulating honor and arena points. This is the same for those who want PvE tiered epic sets. No currencies in the game at present time can be used to purchase such gear.

Yes, more gold will provide players with advantages. To my knowledge we never claimed otherwise. That said, the materials, recipes, or reputations needed to purchase any non-set epic items in Wrath of the Lich King need to be earned by someone. You will be unable to grind to 80 and earn yourself some epic items solely with materials, recipes, or reputations you had earned in Outlands. Yes, though, you can grind to 80 and use gold to buy the items from someone who has.

Taking the time to argue on the forums that the currency of gold for PvE-focused players is easily comparable to the currency of honor for PvP-focused players is to the detriment of keyboards the world over. When it comes to using gold to afford epic items at level 80, the quality of items you can buy for PvE purposes are in line with the quality of items you can buy for PvP purposes. When it comes to using other forms of currencies (arena points, honor points, badges) to afford epic tier sets at level 80, everyone, whether focused on PvP or PvE, will start on day one of the expansion with 0 of these respective currencies.

As a brief aside:

To those who are claiming my post arguing against those saying a particular European Game Master was lying about the honor/arena wipe back in May was wrong -- which by your definition I guess would mean I was lying in my retort -- please take note that I'm working off of the universally-accepted, scholastic definition of the term "lie" in verb form.

Q u o t e:
The real shame is how it wasn't a mistake until after you made the announcement yesterday. You didn't do a thing about addressing the 'error' for months, after continued inquiry by this community into clarification this very topic, and now this pathetic attempt at CYA?

You do make a good point. To be perfectly honest I do not, and in the case of language barriers sometimes cannot, read every blue post made in every region. I did not realize that Game Master's post everyone has been quoting for the last 24 hours existed until yesterday. It was an assumptive and mistaken post that shouldn't have been made. Frankly, I'm surprised so many US players make a habit of reading the European In-Game Support forums for information about the upcoming expansion.

It was based on Blizzard's pattern and pratice of behavior vis a vis the first expansion

This honor system was brand new at the release of The Burning Crusade. It came out with 2.0.1 weeks before release. I do not agree that this one past circumstance should be viewed as a precedence of our intention to allow honor accumulation to persist when new versions of the game are released. Having said that, in retrospect honor probably still should have been wiped when The Burning Crusade launched.

do you even know how sampling in statistics works for a more accurate number?

10,000 peeps actually willing to post probably represents about 2.5million subscribers who are pissed

It's not clear to me that anyone is trying to argue that this is a popular decision on our behalf to wipe honor. We do, however, feel it is necessary going into the next iteration of World of Warcraft.

Edit:

Q u o t e:
so i want a reply , do any of these blizzard posters actually play and play every aspect of the game to real points where they like to do this and find that said aspect fun .

im dieing to know this information

Often times an initial reaction to any unpopular design decision we make occurs when players question whether or not we even play the game or know its community. Yes. We do. Even when defending unpopular decisions I have the distinct advantage of loving my job, loving this company, and loving the games we create.

"Once I gain Honor Points, do I keep them indefinitely, or do they decay over time?
You keep them until you spend them, and they do not decay. The current maximum Honor you can have at any one time (also referred to as the "honor cap") is 75,000 Honor. "

"honor points will accumulate like currency, similar to the gold and silver you obtain through killing monsters or completing quests, and will not decay over time. This allows you to participate in PvP at your own pace, working toward the honor rewards, which you can purchase as soon as you have enough honor points to do so."

Who cares about a EU blue post. Can you please explain how "you keep them until you spend them" can be consistent with complete arbitrary reset?

That information is still correct, however, we are wiping the currency going into the next expansion. We post a lot of information daily in all regions of the world. Continuing to quote a loose contradiction will not kill our intentions to wipe honor in order to make Wrath of the Lich King the best expansion possible.

Q u o t e:

Also how can we trust that this honor reset is "definately" happening.
You guys have changed your minds after making a firm statement twice about not deleting them.
You may change your mind again before release date.
You may add new honor rewards too.
I still suggest an epic ground mount and an epic flyer. each cost 35000 honor a piece and only available one week before expac release.
But please announce it asap. not the first day of that week

Your skepticism is fair. I have no greater justification than conveying the knowledge I have to you that the information disseminated from the lead developers of the game has never changed. They never instructed us to share that honor and arena points would remain before later changing their minds. This is a big company and a very complex game. Sometimes misinformation gets out and is taken as the golden rule. It's an unfortunate fact of business.

Silly Night Elf... you should learn to read B.A.V.U.N.-speak. When they opened PvE-->PvP paid transfers I got the feeling that their "never" did not mean the same thing as other people's "never"

Watch out you guys, they are never going to reset gold.

At least you've resorted to an acronym. Always having to skim over the liberties you've taken with the actual name of our company was beginning to strain my eyes.

If oversight is minimal, make Blues empowered to say things and have them be binding. If they cannot be empowered to that degree (and I would assume that they would not) then close monitering of what your blues say is ncecesarry and ethical.

I agree.

Q u o t e:
Honor should be retained. So should marks. Anything less at this point is not an issue of fairness, it's an issue of ethics and integrity, or lack thereof.

The current plan is to wipe honor at the release of Wrath of the Lich King.
