This is a known issue with specific conflicting settings. Deleting the Variables.txt file should get you all squared away! To do this (with the game closed), navigate to your Documents > Heroes of the Storm folder, and delete Variables.txt. Give that a shot and let me know how it goes!

any fix for mac users? i am having the same issue.

Of course! :) You can find the Mac Variables.txt file in a different location. Make sure to close the game out first, and then try the following steps:

1.) Holding down the Option button, click on Go > Library
    2. ) Open the Application Support folder.
    3.) Open the Blizzard folder.
4.) Open the Heroes of the Storm folder.
    5.) Delete the Variables.txt file.
6.) Relaunch Heroes of the Storm.

Having the same problem on windows7. Deleting Variables.txt gives me the intro cinematic when I start up, but doesn't fix the issue. All I see is the background and an exit button.

Edit: Fixed itself randomly after a while. Maybe it was just loading?

It's possible that it just took a really long time to draw those elements, but that would definitely be out there and I'd want to bug that. Can you post this issue over in our Bug Report Forums with a DxDiag? Our Quality Assurance team can take a look and get something entered if needed.

I get nothing but the HUD. No gameplay layer, just the player tag and health bar. I'm running Windows 8.1 with a GeForce 650 Ti Boost. Is there a patch coming soon for this issue? I tried several resolutions and graphics settings. It is completely unplayable this way. Thanks in advance.

Ogrface, this thread is from August so the information may no longer pertain to this game build. Could you try the steps outlined in this sticky post to see if it resolves your issue:

  • Go into the NVIDIA Control Panel (Right-click anywhere on your desktop).
  • Under 3D Settings, click on Manage 3D settings.
  • Click on Global Settings tab.
  • Click on Antialiasing - Mode
  • Change the Setting to Application-controlled
  • Click on Apply, and close the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Start up Heroes of the Storm.

I'm going to lock this one up since the original issue on Mac is resolved, but if you continue to experience this issue please do create a new post with a DxDiag and we'll take a look!
