Totems are a class-defining feature for the shaman. We are not going to remove totems and we do not wish to marginalize them. We are totally open to ideas that make them cooler, however.

For what it is worth:

Leave the cooldown as it is but allow the shaman to recall the totems to his/her current position.

Remove totem stomping macros.

Remove the One-of-Each-Element-limitation:
You can place max 4 totems, but you could use 4 earth totems if you wanted. This would mean for example 4 Grounding Totems, 2 Searing Totems + 2 Remove Poison etc.

Please keep in mind that we consider totems to be a class-defining feature for the shaman. We have no plans to remove totems and we do not wish to make them less important either. We would like to hear your ideas on how to make them cooler, though.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We have passed this on to the developers.

You'll note we've already announced that we're taking on-board some of the ideas and putting them in for 3.1.0 -- of course, other details remain to be revealed:
