Sterday I fell off the edge of the world

Yesterday I fell off the edge of the world. I had just killed off Ursa Major or Ursa the Mauler or some such at Gnarlpine Hold, and I cut through between two rocks and fell off the edge of the world. Beautiful free fall. Crunch. Dead.

Darnassus cemetery….back to Gnarlpine. I expected to be able to revive at the top of the cliff above the body. No chance. Must have fallen too far. So my ghost jumped and went into free fall and landed on a branch. I thought I might be able to revive lower down, so I jumped again and landed on grass. But too far down apparently and I could not climb…...panic stations……was I going to have to restart my hunter?

The map showed me as being on the edge of the Veiled Sea, with a few more grass patches to the east. The ghost swam east, and eventually arrived at Rutheran Village. Dashed back to the cliff, found the rocks, jumped, landed on the branch. This time I accepted life, and there I was on a slippery branch on a cliff face. I thought if I got as far out as poss on the branch and jumped I might land in the sea. I did so. Free fall. Crash. Another branch. Dead. It had not occurred to me to take a health potion, but I doubt if it would have made any difference.

Darnassus cemetery….cliff top….jump….land on branch….go out to end of branch….jump…I tried to steer my free fall. Missed. Back on the beach. Body still too far away. Swim the ghost round to Rutheran, dash back to cliff.

This time I was careful. Jumped off in correct place…landed on branch…worked spook out to precise location at end of branch where I had jumped when living, and let him fall. Wow. I landed in the right place…..alive again. Can’t be far down to beach now. Jumped. Crash…Dead. Again I had forgotten to take the tablets. If I had I might just have survived the fall. BUT the body was now at beach level. Panic over.

Darnassus cemetery….but this time I went to Rutheran and swam round the coast to recover the body, and swim, alive, back to Rutheran.

Fortunately I had finished the quest so did not have to go through that lot again.

A whole hour lost, but at least I did not have to start again. Plan your escape routes in advance or the ground will suddenly disappear from under your feet.

Anyone else had this experience?

Similar but not quite as nasty. I leveled up a human character in Teldrassil. Ran all the way from Northshire Abbey to Aldrassil at level 1. One time when doing a quest in the northern part of Teldrassil, I pushed it a little too far and ended up tumbling off the side of the giant tree and smacking down dead on a branch. It was 2005 and I was new to the game, I was a bit freaked out and wasn't sure I was going to be able to get my character out again. Then I remembered my Hearthstone... ;-)
