Were is the "war" in Warcraft?

Anyone remember the old Southshore war against Tarren Mill? Well for those who don't ....Long before BGs was created players from both sides used to converge around Southshore and wage war on the fields between Southshore and Tarren Mill ...besides the opening of AQ its the most fun I've had on WOW to date and thats saying something ...come on Blizz bring back world PvP, people are crying out for it. Something....anything!

man o man.. the biggest battle I've been into was with the opening of the Outland gate.. horde were with 2,5 full raid and we took over the portal... after 20minz of waiting allies came down the hill with 4 full raids.. frigging fun for hoooouuuurrssss!!!

edit: There was a film made by the allies, maybe I can track it down somewhere.

I remember those battles also. They were quite fun indeed and they lasted for days in some cases :-)

Hopefully we should see some more cool grand-scale battles with the release of WotLK, where siege weapons and destructible buildings will bring lots of new flavour to world PvP. I personally look forward to that a lot. :-)

Gather a raid and go where there are lots of opposing faction people around same levels.

Or set a time and place and invite both sides to a big fight.

That is indeed a good recipe for getting some World PvP action :-)

Imo, it will get boring in few weeks. It's not 'real pvp' :/

An interesting comment actually :-)

What qualifies as 'real PvP' in your opinion? (others are free to answer this question as well)

Sorry but I think's it's nostalgia. TM VS SS was fun sometimes, but mostly it was just zerg.

Ahh those days were fun indeed... if you liked that kind of PvP that is. :-)

I remember that quite a lot of people were extremely annoyed back in those days, which is something that many seems to have forgotten nowadays. The forums back then were filled with complaints that it was impossible to quest in the areas that had a lot of PvP going on, and there were many demands that we should fix that.

My hopes for the PvP zone in Northrend are as follows.

It is an entire zone first of all. Not like Halaa, I am talking an entire zone, like the area you see when you open your map. Halaa failed because of this.

The Northrend PvP zone is called Lake Wintergrasp and it is about the size of Westfall. It is not instanced and there will be no PvE objectives in it at all... It is all PvP

The Zone pvp buffs needs to have some better incentive to be taken. +5% damage... ?

And i seem to remember blizz saying that in Halaa, special quests ONLY for the faction who controlled it would be available, if "deliver 20 dust and get a token" is a quest feck, i dont even want to bother.

Many have said similar things like this and the consensus seems to be that Halaa is cool, especially in the beginning, but that is still needs something more in order to be epic. The main concern seems to be that after a while there is not enough incentive to keep fighting for the control over Halaa.

This was recently posted on the US forums, and I think it is very suitable for this discussion as well:

Why can't you make it so that cities like Halaa (well, pick another one, not Halaa) give a server wide buff to players, if it is controlled by your faction?

That would provide an incentive for players to capture and hold it. For example, a 3% increase in damage while the city is held or something.

Just having zone specific buffs was a good start, but it needs to be more epic than that.

That's a cool idea. Maybe we'll do something like that with Lake Wintergrasp.
