1.0 What is a Booster Pack?
A booster pack is a sealed pack of cards. The contents within each pack in unknown and randomly distributed accordingly. What is known about the contents is the number of each type of cards within a booster pack. For TCG play, this is 10 Common Cards, 3 Uncommon Cards, 1 Rare Card, 1 Hero Card and 1 Points Card. See 1.1 about information on where Loot Cards are inserted.
1.0.1 Where can Booster Packs be found/bought?
Booster packs can be bought individually or can be found within Starter Decks. Local computer games retailers and toy retailers are most likely to stock World of Warcraft TCG merchandise and product.
1.0.2 What does a Start Deck Contain?
A Starter Deck contains 3 Oversized Hero Cards (for use in the TCG), a 33 card starter deck (semi fixed contents; no loot cards), 1 Instruction Booklet and 2 Booster Packs (randomized contents). Booster packs found in starter decks have an equal chance of contain Loot Cards as any other booster packs (i.e. buying a Starter Deck does not mean a higher nor lower chance of pulling a Loot Card than buying 2 individual boosters)
1.0.3 What is a Treasure Pack?
Part of the TCG experience is playing against “Raid Decks”. This is where multiple players gang up on a Raid location such as Molten Core or Onxyia’s Lair in an attempt to beat the boss. Inside a Raid Deck Pack is a Treasure Pack containing promotional TCG cards. Occasionally Loot cards can be found in these. The insertion rate of Loot Cards within Treasure Packs is slightly higher than normal booster packs, but the RRP of a Raid Deck is about 8 times the price of a booster pack.
1.0.4 What is a Tournament Pack?
Tournament Packs are easier-to-obtain versions of treasure packs (mainly through officially organized competitions). This allows TCG players to obtain copies of promotional cards as found in the Treasure Packs without having to buy multiple Raid Decks. The downside is that these packs do NOT contain any Loot Cards at all. You can tell the different between a Treasure Pack and a Tournament Pack as the Tournament Pack will have “Tournament Version” stamped on the packaging. Therefore online players interested only in Loot cards should avoid these items.
1.1 What is a Loot Card?
A loot card is a physical card found inside WOW TCG booster packs. They are extremely rare, with approximately 1 loot card found in every 48 packs. The loot card has a silver or gold scratch off panel which hides a code. This ensures that the code has not been tampered with or redeemed beforehand. When found, the Loot card replaces the Hero card in that booster pack.
1.1.1 I think I have found a Loot card, but it does not have a scratch-off panel on it!
Not all versions of a card have a scratch off panel: these versions are only a non-loot version of the card. A scratch off loot card has an orange collector’s number on the bottom of the card. All non-loot versions have a blue number. Better luck next time! The reason is that the cards themselves are of course playable in the TCG and would be deemed unfair if a TCG player had to collect loot versions of the cards in order to play those cards in the TCG.
1.1.2 What is the different between the silver and gold scratch off panels?
There is no difference: Loot cards with the silver scratch-off panels are made in the US and gold scratch-off panels are produced in Europe. You can use either version on both the US and European server realms.
1.1.3 What is the difference in rarities between various loot cards?
Each World of Warcraft TCG expansion has three cards to collect at differing rarity: common, uncommon and rare.
Example: The Heroes of Azeroth expansion has the “Landro Longshot” loot card at common, “Thunderhead Hyppogryph” at uncommon and the Saltwater Snapjaw loot card at rare. Therefore you are likely to see more copies of Landro Longshot than Saltwater Snapjaw in the long run.
1.2 What is a Points card?
Every single booster pack has a Points card worth 100 points. These need to be redeemed on the official Upper Deck website at www.ude.com/point and requires you to setup an account with the website (free of charge of course). Once you have done this, you can start entering the codes on each of the points cards. Collect enough points and you can start redeeming them for TCG promotional cards, accessories and of course more online loot items. The cheapest online item you can redeem for points is the Frost Tabard, which costs 2000 points. Therefore you need to purchase 20 booster packs and redeem the 20 points cards inside each of them to be able to purchase a Frost Tabard for your character.
1.2.1 What is the difference between a Points card and a Crafting card?
Starting from Fires of Outlands, Points cards have different crafting materials print on them (e.g. Primal Fire, Shadowcloth etc.). The purpose of the crafting material is for use in the TCG promotion below.
1.2.2 What is the crafting program?
The Crafting redemption promotion is a TCG only promotion. By mailing in specific set of materials, you receive an exclusive TCG promo card.
1.2.3 Are loot cards available in the crafting program?
Loot cards are not available as part of the crafting program.
1.2.4 Can I redeem crafting materials for their online equivalent (e.g. If I find a Primal Air crafting card, can I get a Primal Air for my online character?
No: please visit the Auction House for those ;)
1.3 Who can be given an item?
Each item can only be given to a single character and are Bind on Pickup. Therefore you must choose the character you want to give the item to. Items cannot be shared across multiple characters, even within a single account. Additionally some items have a level pre-requisite before you can use them, some are be picked up by other players (but are usually of a conjured nature: they disappear when the player logs off). The details of these are described in section 3 under the individual items.
1.4 How does it affect my character?
All items are purely cosmetic in nature. They have no effect on your character’s statistics whatsoever. Even some of the mounts require you to purchase the correct level of training before you can use them.
2.0 How to redeem a Loot Card
The only NPC that you can redeem your items from is Landro Longshot in Booty Bay (Stranglethorn Vale). He is located outside on the wharf leading to the ship. He is riding a turtle and is surrounding by two goblin bodyguards.
To redeem your code you MUST first visit www.wowtcg.com/loot to convert your 25 digit scratch off code into a 12 digit online code. THE 25 DIGIT CODE FROM THE SCRATCH OFF PANEL WILL NOT FIT INTO THE ONLINE GAME BOX!
You can copy the online code from the website and paste it directly into the text box that Landro prompts you with. Once that is done you will receive your item. Enjoy!
2.0.1 What happens if I lose the code?
If you lose the online code after you have redeemed it on the website, but before you give it to Landro, don’t worry! As long as you fill in the same scratch off code again, you can get the online code back (it will be the same number as before). However, you need to choose exactly the same server realm as before as the code is now already locked to that realm.
2.0.2 Can I re-use the code once it has been redeemed?
Once the online code has been used and Landro has given your character the item, both the scratch off code and online code can no longer be used. You will need to find another loot card if you want another item!
