Sinterklaas in WOW in 2008. The dutch demand!

Since we Europeans don't really do Halloween, and obviously don't care about Indepence Day, along with some other celebrations which we celebrate in the world of Azeroth, we should get some holidays too! We've got too much American culture in our every-day lives already, to think that even the medieval world of Azeroth is teaming with it too, is (of course understandeble, since the game is American, but also) a bit sadening.
There wasn't even such a thing as America in medieval times.
Therefor we, Europeans, should see some of our ancient traditions in the virtual world.

If I remember correctly the French already got their 14th of July celebration virtualized this year, and the Germans kinda had their Munich Beerfestival.
Perhaps next year it's time for the very large population of Dutchmen in Azeroth to be recognized!

Now the time-honored Dutch tradition of Saint Nicolas-day, or Sinterklaas as we call it in Dutch, would make a perfect addition to the wide variety of holidays celebrated in WOW. The tradition, in which the ancient bishop Nicolas and his uncountable helpers, the Black Petes, give gifts to children lies at the very roots of the American christmas tradition, and it's Santa Claus, and should be recognized as such.

In 2008 I would like to see Sinterklaas riding on the roofs of Azeroth!

Who's with me?

I actually thought that Sinterklaas and Santa Claus was the same thing, but I guess I learned something new today :-)

But neither Sinterklaas or Santa Claus is in the game... We have Greatfather Winter(http://www.wowwiki.com/Greatfather_Winter) and Great-father Winter(http://www.wowwiki.com/Great-father_Winter) instead ;-)

I agree. It makes sence since the whole concept of Santa Claus is a just a rip-off from Sinterklaas.

Hmm... It seems that both Sinterklaas and Santa Clause are technically the same figure, both based on Saint Nicholas of Myra.

Thats true, but wikipedia also tells us that Santa Claus concept is based on the Sinterklaas concept. And that's why imo it makes more sence to have Sinterklaas ingame than Santa Claus.

Aye, it does tell us something of those lines :-)

Q u o t e:
Having both would ofcourse be the best, who doesn't like ingame events :).

Having both could be fun indeed, but having Greatfather Winter and Great-father Winter instead is a fair compromise I think... That way we have an in-game holiday event that is not the same thing as the real life holiday, but the strong analogies to the real life holiday makes it something that everyone from most countries and cultures can relate to. Hope this makes sense :-)

Personally I would love to see a Robot Santa in-game like the one from Futurama
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_recurring_robot_characters_from_Futurama#Robot_Santa)

He would judge everyone to be naughty and gank them accordingly :-)
