The chat box was instantly full and scrolling too fast to read when I logged on my first character. I figured I needed to learn how the chat functions worked before I dare attempt to kill those mean looking wolves. Then someone challenged me to a duel and I accepted and was quickly defeated. He seem to be laughing and yelled "noob warning" so everyone to turn and look. I desperately tried to chat but opened a macro box, then i accidentally moved the whole chat box and changed its size and appearance. I couldn’t ask for help before I learned how to use the chat box and several other people were emoting /ROFL at me. It was so embarrassing that I logged off and deleted that character and made a new one. I was then in a different starting area, one for dwarves.

I did not attempt to talk and ran off before anyone found out I was noob and was surprised to see the wolves were not attacking me until I attempted to click on the closest one. Here the chat box chatter scrolled more slowly and I finally figured out how to talk in the general and found out how to whisper. There were a few nice people, but most were so stuck up that they were ignoring me before they got to know me. I did not know what Spamm me not was and thought I had offended them somehow to deserve the silent treatment.

I levelled fast after I figured out how to use the attack buttons like sinister strike and put on new equipment. But when my first green dropped I got scared to put it on thinking if I did I never be able to take it off to put on something better. I had read in chat someone write dot put on greens you don’t really need, sell them or they will be BOUND to you. And the greens did warn me with a warning window that if I equip this then it will be bound to me.

Levelling was slow once out of the starting area, I got killed a lot and had trouble saving up for vendor equipment while having enough money for repairs and things needed to level engineering and leatherworking. I was lv 16 by the time someone did not laugh at the ease someone 5 to 7 levels under me could beat me up, he whispered to go to bottom and find the icon for talent points and use 7 points. He also asked why I was equipped with no greens or a blue. He gave me 25 gold, 4 16 slot bags and a boost where we did all of westfall, including dead mines

This has actually been quite an interesting thread to read so far, so please keep posting people :-)

I see a lot of different newcomer experiences from people, which of course is only to be expected, but I find it somewhat unexpected that many of you seem to have deleted the very first characters you made. How many of you still have your first character, and do you still play it?

I still have my first character btw., but I must admit that it has been quite a while since I last played it. I keep my first character mostly for nostalgic reasons :-)
