Epic (purple): 8843 items found (1341 weapons 7502 armor)
Uncommon (green!): 7503 items found (1430 weapons 6073 armor)
Rare (blue): 5307 items found (1061 weapons 4248 armor)

The main problem with this, until blizzards plan is to let everyone to the current raid tier, and let them pass the "old" contents just to let those players to enjoy the new raid at the first week, epic will be only epic, until next tier comes, and everybody can get the old epic tier with hc emblems.
I think there should be 2 way to get epic feeling for the players.
I - Epic is only from heroic mode:
Since normal raids are pug-able, normal 10/25 man raid should drop only blue items. If you want epic, join a guild and go to hardmodes.
II - item sets
Where are the mighty set bonuses? The whole WotLK is about Tier class-epics.
Where are the carftable, farmable 8/12/16 blue sets?
just imagine a blue 15 where you can get
6 piece from hc dungeons (bop)
4 piece from world boe drops (go to AH)
2 piece from BoE profession (accesory)
2 specific enchant for the mighty bonus
1 BoP profession
If you can get all the 15 part you could get such a bonus, that is better then the higher ilvl epic set.
or dont go this far... (but i think getting such a great set of blue is epic :P )
Where are the simple blue twin blades, weapon combos, ring duos, etc?
III - New tier of blues
In the WotLK aélmost every item above ilvl 200 are only purple. Normal icc dungeon boss drops epic too.
Where are the new tier of blues, witch can beat lower ilvl epic?
