The road to Blizzard Facebook

It is now very clear to me that the real ID system is leading to a blizzard battle net Facebook system, one that I will soon lose total control over. This system will not solve trolling; it will only increase personal abuse in game. People who stalk in game, who treat people appallingly, do not care if you know their name or not, they do not care if you can take legal action against them or not. They have usually been down that road before.
All Real ID, and the forum changes will do, will do is take the control, away from the player and give it to the company. Recently I had a person in game, because I did not agree with his point of view, /w me in game and tell me he wanted something bad to happen to my wife and children. This person obviously has serious issues, and after making a complaint to a GM, still continues in game as before, when they clearly should be banned.

Two female friends, who I knew played the game, left because of harassment from male players, these two did not give out their real names, did not tell anyone they were female. Once people had found out, months of harassment took place, and they finally left. I can only imagine what will take place now. I can see the forums becoming waste grounds, I can see people afraid to post problems and issues, and people will shoot them down and get even more personal with the release of their names. I can also see many cases of mistaken identity.

I simply do not trust where this is going, and I will not have my children’s safety put at risk just so that blizzard can move towards their own Facebook, but me having no control over it.

I can see you all, saying, blizzard would never do that:

We will NEVER allow people to change faction
We will NEVER allow people to move from pve to pvp servers
We will NEVER sell in game items
We will never ask you for your email address or name or password. We will just put it on display for everyone to see

Whoever is planning this change, you need to take a step back and think carefully, it will not prevent any of what you say it is designed to do, it will only increase the personal risk to your players. It will only take one mistake, one tragedy, one stalking, where buy people achieve it through you promoting real names, for the law suits to flood in.

I have been playing this game since the first day it launched, it allows me to be in control, for me to choose who I am friends with and who knows my real name and information about me. It also gives me the anonymity of creating a character any time I like and playing without anyone in the world knowing I am on, real freedom, that is now all gone.

it seems i have a choice, so i take option two, to quit, I will be playing out the game, killing the Lich king, then cancelling my account, and my sons and daughters, if I cannot be in complete control of who gains personal information, such as my name and that of my children, whether it be on the forum or in game, then I do not wish to continue as a wow player.
