While everyone is over in that "other" thread with rage coming out of their ears and so on, I will take my time to post on a seperate little thread, that will be ignored (or flamed) soon. This is just my personal opinion on the coming of the Real Id thing to the fora here. I don't ask anyone to agree, disagree, nor do I wish to attack any single person, yet I dare speak in general terms regarding what I see online.

Thank you Blizzard for daring this!

I have been around many a fora, not just these, over many a year. It is really incredible the amount of wasteful drivel and naked threats you see. People don't behave online, simply because they know they can get away with it. I know if I behaved as I see so many other do, I am sure my parents would feel downright ashamed of me.

People (usually) behave decently in normal public space, because they are not anonymous. They have to stand up for what they say and take the consequences of their actions. Why should it be different in an online space? Personally I think we should take *more* care in how we phrase ourselves online, as we potentially touch more minds than otherwise. Blizzard is not only taking a shot at making another type of gaming society, but also a shot at accountability. Bravo!

While the laws of countries may have something to say about this - and I fully respect that - I cannot help but salute Blizzard for trying. It is sorely needed if you ask me.

I am quite confident that there are many a silent gamer / person out there, that feel as I do. That we're a silent part of the community that cringes at the way people sometimes treat other people. People will say that it is open for abuse. Well... almost anything is open to that. Your hands can create art, but can also inflict harm on others. We don't bad hands for being able to be abused do we?
And those that abuse others will - hopefully - have a harder time of doing it. Such people shouldn't have the right nor priviledge to hide behind anonymity. No. They should be punished according to the letter of the law in whichever country they live in. Verbal abuse is not ok!

I have nothing to hide nor be ashamed of - hence this change means nothing personally to me. I am an opinionated person and I stand by what I say, until someone proves me wrong. Then I am willing to be stand corrected.
No. What the endless amount of rage I see everywhere regarding to this, makes me think, that many a person know full well in the back of their minds, that at some point they posted something they wouldn't ever had said to anyone - face to face. (Just my personal theory).

It is like the proverbial hand in the cookie jar.

Again - Thank you Blizzard for daring this!
