Everywhere else on the internet you can choose to protect your identity. And there are plenty of reasons.

First of all, the net NEVER forgets, for example this post will live forever.
Data mining, the posts that will never be forgotten can and will be used for anything from advertising to creeps stalking other persons.
John Smith is still an anon, while Patsy Kensit the 3rd of Winchester is easier to locate in the real world.
Silence, since some, like me, will never ever post under my real name you are going to lose input, and maybe not in my case, but without a doubt in others, that input has great value.

Somehow i can´t shake the feeling that this is been done for a completely other reason, silence. Making people more vulnerable when they post critique will result in less criticism.
I don´t think anyone reading the forums and the blue posts don´t notice the politician speak, instead of posts with straight answers, every word is weighed in grams before posted. Every decision made is defended, no matter how bad they are. Faults are rarely admitted.

Controlling the boards can be done in other ways, and just as effective. Other boards prove this.

You do know that at some point, something bad will happen because you give people access to other peoples real name, and real life?

- With love!

If you wish to comment on or discuss the Real ID announcement from yesterday, please do so in the stickied thread. There is no need for multiple threads about the same topic -- this just creates a mess in the forums that impacts on usability.
