Classic WoW Server (demand?)

Having done some research there are a substantial amount of level 60 guilds still around, and definitely a large userbase who still enjoy the "old content" and they try to remain true to the parameters set in pre-tbc. This got me thinking, that its a shame that once cataclysm hits, this content will be completely / mostly? unavailable.

So my point? I'm trying to gain an idea of the support behind a classic server, running the original version of the game, restored to a patch before the release of The Burning Crusade, I know blizzard have responded to this request before saying that while they considered it, they couldn't support essentially 2 different versions of the game.

However if the demand is there, I'm sure that rolling back to a stable content patch (pre-tbc) and releasing a classic server could be worth blizzards time and effort. Considering it would be a stable release and static, thus shouldn't require any further development other than the usual maintenance.

Anyways, I'm not trying to knock the way the game is being developed, Cataclysm will surely bring a lot of great advancements to the game. I'm just holding out for some nostalgia, sometimes I still like to play WC3 Reign of Chaos, as opposed to The Frozen Throne, because its an awesome game and although TFT improved on it, its good to have the option to play it in its original form.

So if you agree, lend your support, I'll make a petition or something later if anybody cares. After all Blizzard actually do listen to their consumers, whoever said cross faction transfers would never ever happen?
