Blizzard must delete the Mage class

I am once again calling for the deletion of the Mage class due to its total lack of relevance.

I have been playing for many years now and there has been absolutely no improvement in the Mage class. No DPS, no CC, no role whatsoever. (Yes, yes, I know that you know some ‘uber’ Mage who does a ton of DPS in raids, but this happens when he is surrounded by inferior players with inferior gear. I am talking about fair comparisons, not specific situations where it only looks like a Mage is doing decent damage.)

Raiding guilds very rarely allow Mages, as they simply have nothing to offer. Mages are laden with ineffective spells such as Remove Curse. (Why does a ‘master of the Arcane’ have Remove Curse? That belongs to a Healer class.) The only reason I managed to get into a raiding guild was because I knew the GM in real life. They didn’t want a Mage, just like the other raiding guilds.

Even though Mages are pathetic at DPS, they still get agro without even trying. There is no reason for such a weak class to get agro. The advantage to disadvantage ratio is totally unbalanced.

Of course, there are those who will now say that Mages are a ‘challenging’ class and that it needs dedication to produce results. Its not just’ facerolling’ on a keyboard, like a Warlock. That’s all fine and dandy, but if I cannot even get into an instance or raid then it’s kind of pointless, isn’t it? Its not nice reading in chat that a group is looking for a DPS, but then followed by the expected tagline: ‘No mages’.

It has been five years now, and the Mage is the only class that has seen zero improvement. Tanks are doing more damage than Mages. (Yes, yes, I know that you know a Mage that ‘outdamages’ a tank, but I am talking about fair comparisons.)

Blizzard must immediately delete the Mage class.

Things will improve for you at level 80.

These points are not quite true, mage DPS is highly competitive when performed properly. Different fights will offer different classes some advantage when it comes to how much damage they can realistically output, but there are also fights where a mage will truly outshine others. Every boss is not designed in a way to provide equal numbers across the board. Some will favour melee and others ranged DPS, and the occasional one will favour both equally. It's called variety and a skilled mage will make the most of the opportunities. I've seen it myself in a variety of raids; an undergeared mage can outperform better geared damage dealers when played to the fullest. It also depends on the what other damage dealers are doing, if they're playing to the fullest extent possible - so many factors will contribute to the figures you see from dumb luck to skill, gear, encounter, the alignment of the starts to the moon and so on.

I call you on this one. Either the mage is trying, or the tank isn't. :)

Then the mage is not trying, not trying or not playing properly at all. Even in a fight where combat mechanics favour melee, a mage played properly will out damage the tank in equal gear. Fact.

Sorry, not going to happen. It may help for you to try another class and see if you find it fits your playstyle more.

You just got trolled!
When it comes to troll detection, we're top of the game at knowing a troll when we see one. :P It doesn't make the answers any less valid because troll or not, people do believe in the concerns the OP has raised.
