Elemental shaman in raids

i'm just wondering. why would most raid groups even bother to bring an ele shaman anymore?
we used to be needed for the totem of wrath, but that has been replaced by a warlock going demonology which gives over 100 spell power more.

what im trying to say is, what treats do we bring to the raid now. our dps cant compete with others in most fights anymore even. (then im talking highlvl raiding with players who knows their class inside out)

i'm just raging a bit because my guild suddenly decided only to use 1 ele shaman per raid at a max, which makes me have to rotate half the raids, because they said ele shamans were useless. and sadly i wasnt able to object to that with any argument.

thats why im wondering.

Bring the player not the class.

That should definitely be the case. Of course, the total composition of the raid/guild may influence the choice, but as long as two characters fill the same role and all needed buffs are accounted for the choice should be the player, not the class. That should be the case for about 10 spots of the 25, no?

But we all know people have a strong opinion about what's best, and how "perfect" the setup has to be, and it's often hard to change that opinion or have people accept that "not best" is not the same as "horribly useless". Can't give up on trying though. :-)

We don't either bother posting solutions any more (and there's been a lot) because Blizzard never give any feedback on the ideas.

Aye I know this is a rant - so sue me ;)

My solicitor will be in touch. ;-)

On a serious note, please do continue to post feedback and suggestions. Comments on specific ideas will normally be very rare. (Risk of creating high expectations or causing riots and all that.) But it is greatly valued, and the ultimate feedback is the changes done in the patches anyway.

Just please take the changes you don't like as "we respectfully disagree" rather than "we don't care". :-)

Good to see my comments brought on some comparison and discussion, almost entirely without "why don't you post in this other thread?" or "why don't you post some new info" complaints. And some really good info and reflections shared too.

And for clarity, my original comment was not a "Shamans are fine, stop QQ" comment, but made in support of the notion to "bring the player, not the class". Unfortunately, even when classes viewed as sub-par are brought up to par, it can take a long time for people to realize and actually adhere to that principle.

You dont get it, it seems.

I'd rather say it seems you didn't read my "this is not a 'Shamans are fine'" statement. I was agreeing with the principle that one should pick the good player when the role (DPS, Tanking, Healing) is the same. I was in no way saying that's how it is, only that it's how is should be. (You may notice I used that word - "should" - from the very beginning.)

If your agenda is to try convince me, there's no need. My personal opinion doesn't matter. And if your agenda is to try have me agree with you or lend you support for your opinion, you may as well give up, as that's not my purpose here. As someone said earlier, consider me a messenger. And I've received plenty of material in this thread for the messaging, and hope for some more still. :-)
