Why are all the major lore characters male?

I am a proud female gamer who plays WoW.
I have noticed that the amount of female protagonists in this game is abysmal. What do female gamers have to look up to? There is Jaina Proudmoore, Slyvanas and Tyrande Whisperwind and who else? I feel this game is becoming more sexist and I am deeply saddened. What does the wow community think?
